We Stayed at the hotel recently. 9th to 16th March 2020. We couldn’t fault any of the staff from reception, waiters, cleaning staff and in fact all the staff who work behind the scenes, as I refer to them as being the unseen workers. That includes the gardeners, spa staff, staff who wash the dishes etc. our room was spotless. This was our third visit to Madeira in 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed the island again. The people are so friendly. We were half board. The breakfast consisted of a multiple of various breads, Jams, Yogurts, cerials, porridge, ham, cheese a plenty of fresh fruit. The hot Breakfast consisted of Scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and porridge. But if you ask the restaurant staff various other things were available, i,e omelette, fried eggs, boiled eggs and i am sure if anything else that the visitors preferred wouldn’t have been a problem. Also Sparkling wine. Half board evening meal provided a limited choice. With a starter off the menu, A choice of meat dish or fish for the main course and a starter again off the main menu. All served to the table, but I am sure anything else you need, would not be a problem. The restaurant with its sun terrace has beautiful views. The spa and indoor swimming pool also had the same views. The hotel was quiet, maybe because of the time we visited, and maybe the atmosphere could have been helped with a little bit of background music in the communal areas. The hotel is set on a steep incline from the town centre and port. The shuttle bus provided, at a minimal cost, and only carried out one return journey / day. It may be because our visit was at a quiet time but it is only a 2 minute drive to the centre / port. The management may consider a more frequent service and a system where you don’t have to book on to the shuttle 24 hrs in advance. A local bus service is available with two stops outside the hotel, with time tables and advice provided by reception staff. We totally enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the future when this virus disappears. Thanks to every person at the hotel.

On arriving in Funchal from the modern airport, we were unfortunately informed that our chosen accommodation was overbooked and unavailable, at that time. After some difficult discussions, we were soon whisked out of the delightful and bohemian " Old Town " of Funchal to this beautiful and picturesque Spa Retreat Hotel which commanded, from above, a fantastic view of Funchal and a lot of the majestic Madeiran surrounding countryside... Our room facilities and views from our balcony were fantastic. Unfortunately, we had chosen our hotel, the Quinta Bela Sao Tiago because of its location in the old town. We had booked on a bed and breakfast basis, in order to allow us to sample the local Madeiran and Portuguese food delicacies during the days of the Carnival Celebrations in Funchal which coincided with my 60th Birthday and our belated Honeymoon from September 2019... Therefore, although the Quinta Das Vistas was a great hotel, it was not our original choice for the reasons previously explained. The breakfast facilities and food choices were excellent and the views from the delightful dining room were fabulous. The half-board menu, unfortunately, had one choice only and was international in flavour and not Portuguese... The Palace Gardens were very beautiful, exotic and relaxing... The indoor-outdoor swimming pool and internal Spa facilities were also of an excellent standard throughout. We must also commend our Prestige Holiday Representative, and the Deputy Administration Manager, David Rodrigues for sorting out the problems as they arose and arranged for us to return to their sister hotel of Quinta Bela Sao Tiago for a wonderful "two centre" holiday in the fabulous Funchal and majestic Madeira xxx... We shall most certainly return, next year, hopefully...

This is a low-rise hotel set in lovely gardens in a quiet residential area. The pool and spa areas are lovely and the views over the city and bay from the terrace are panoramic. Our room was spacious - you could have held a party in the bathroom - and the public rooms are airy and nicely appointed. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Food service can sometimes be a little slow in the evening and if you like tea and coffee making facilities in your room, you need to ask at reception as soon as you arrive as it doesn’t seem to be the norm. If you are a vegetarian or have any food allergies it would be best to notify the hotel in advance. This is not the hotel for you if you want the party nightlife. The hotel is about 20 mins walk from the centre of Funchal and there are two walking routes: one is a bit hairy because it has no pavements but the other is fine, if a little longer. The hotel is well served by public transport though, so there is no need to walk. Three, 5 or 7 day passes can be bought at very reasonable prices from the giro kiosk at the bus station - much cheaper than taxis. I would certainly consider staying here again.

I would not rate this hotel 5 star at best it would be 3. On arriving we asked if we could have an iron only to be told irons were not allowed in rooms, I had to send 2 pairs of trousers to the laundry and 10 minutes later the manager arrived to tell me it would be 20% more to have them back the same day. No where in the room or hotel description does it state that irons are not allowed Food options were non existent, we were half board and the only option was meat or fish both of the hotels choice, starter and desert were also hotels choice. The wait was horrendous over 2 hours when we complained they said they had a staff shortage. We were informed they had booked a wedding and we would have to have our meal in what they called the garden room, this was just a passageway which led upstairs and downstairs, people were queuing as there was not enough room bearing in mind the hotel was not at capacity. If you were not up early you had no chance of a shower as the water went off. The bedding wasn’t changed or made properly for 4 consecutive days. I wouldn’t recommend taking children as they would go hungry and when leaving the property it’s a death trap straight onto a main road . The hotel would have been lovely in its hay day however it now needs a complete refurbishment, the chairs in the main reception were disgusting, carpets were soiled, lampshades in bedroom had watermarks on them . Very disappointing holiday which cost us a lot of money.
