advantages: - very close to capital of Horta - outstanding breakfast - clean - not crowed and familial atmosphere - a lot of facilities: sauna and steam cabine, fitnesss, swimming pool... disadvantages: - no fridge in the room or central fridge that you can use to cool your drinks - seperate sofa in the rooms could be another extra

We spent a wonderful week in the Quinta do Vale hotel in August 2013. The hotel is just out of Horta so you need a car but it's worth it for the beautiful peace and quiet, and fantastic views of Pico one way and the Caldeira the other. The hotel has large airy rooms, a beautiful pool and even a gym and sauna, although the weather was a bit hot while we were there to try these. There is also a games room if the weather turns bad. The staff were kind and helpful and made us very welcome - including the cat! Breakfast was especially good, with fresh exotic fruits as well as the more traditional cheese, ham and fresh rolls. I also particularly like the Portuguese tradition of cake for breakfast... It's a family-run hotel, which made for a nice atmosphere. The landlady was very kind and helpful and even tracked down an out-of-the-way restaurant and checked it had veggie food for us. More generally, Faial is a lovely island, plenty to do even though it's small, with lovely walks, museums, whale-watching and a day-trip to Pico. The botanical garden is just five minutes from the hotel, too. Highly recommended!

Our family of 3 stayed 3 nights at Quinta do Vale and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Quinta is lovely, located in a residential area with all the amenities of a nice hotel but in a nice family-run inn. Do note that it is located about 10 minutes outside of center of Horta and you need a car to stay at this place. It has a beautiful pool in the back (perfect for kids), sauna, steam room and gym. We stayed in the Sao Georges room and it was spacious for the 3 of us. They put a rollaway bed for my son, which was perfect. Bed was comfortable and the room was air conditioned, which was very nice. The room was very clean and bathroom was ok with good water pressure. They provided clean beach towels every day for our use. The only minor complaint is the fact that wifi were not working in the lobby while we were there. But there was a LAN connection in our room. We loved the breakfast. It's continental with bread, different hams, Azorean cheeses, yogurt, cereals, local fruits (pineapples, grapes, etc...) and Azorean cakes (yummy). And wonderful coffee. For our 3 night stay, we were also given one hour to use the sauna and steam room, which we did take advantage of. Afterwards, we jumped into the pool, which was quite cool. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

We had a few wonderful days here in Fajal. This is a very beautiful small family hotel in Flamengos, a few minutes drive from Horta. The Quinta do Vale is very familiar and has many facilities like pool, sauna and gym. The room was clean and nice and the stuff very helpful and friendly. Thx for nice time

This looks like a b&b, but is run like a hotel. The owner, Anabela, welcomed us, but was mostly absent the following days. Breakfast was organised by personnel, with some local products, but nothing home-made. Rooms are nice and clean, good pool and spacious garden, very nice fitness with sauna. Accomodations are great, with excellent WiFi all around. Only complaint is that Anabela forgot we wanted breakfast half an hour early to get to the airport on time, so we had to wait. Also, we saw her pass by but when we wanted to check out, she had left, so we had to check out with a lady from the staff that could not operate the Card machine and did not have 5 euro change. Took some time to find the change. We would have expected the owner to be there in person as we left.
