My Husband & I visited the Savoy Gardens Hotel again for another most enjoyable holiday. This was before all the coronavirus took hold of everywhere. We were lucky enough to be given a fantastic room on the floor we had requested & for that we are very grateful. The staff have been mostly the same for the last few years, that on it’s own shows it is a excellent place to work & visit. We mostly relaxed round the pool or on our balcony that has a lovely view of the sea & harbour. We were on half board, the food is excellent with plenty of choice for both breakfast & evening meal . I must say thank you to Jose the Restaurant Manager & Priscilla one of the waitresses for their kindness and being so helpful. I also had a long & helpful chat with the Hotel Manager she was very pleasant. We did go into the centre of Funchal shopping & the occasional lunch! Also went shopping to the two shopping centres, one in the mountains. We are only sorry we will not be able to go back in October with my Daughter & Granddaughter, so can only say we will return as soon as we get back to normal.

We were looking for somewhere to escape the British weather and celebrate my husbands birthday. We picked this hotel based on the reviews on here and we certainly had a fantastic holiday. We booked a junior suite, which was lovely, very spacious and good views over to Funchal harbour and of course that all important sea view. E-mailed the hotel to ask for a high floor and we were given a room on the 6th together with a lovely bottle of sparkling wine and fruit platter. Not sure if this a normal occurrence or because of the birthday but it was much appreciated - thank you. The room was kept spotlessly clean and towels changed every day. As stated before a litre bottle of water is left every day together with tea and coffee being replenished. The tap water is ok to be boiled for your tea and coffee which then leaves the bottle of water available for taking tablets or drinking . ( Saves buying any extra ). The bed is huge and very comfortable with decent white linen and the towels were again an excellent quality , fluffy and white. The whole of the hotel is well cared for and kept clean, excellent indoor pool complex but do take care as the flooring can be slippery. The roof terrace is good with nice sunbeds supplied with cushioned pads, also a few double sunbeds which we managed to get a few times . There is no honesty bar on the roof terrace now as apparently it was being abused but you can collect drinks from the pool bar but have to carry them upstairs. The outdoor pool area is nice as well and if the weather was warmer we would use that area , unfortunately the pool was too cold for us to swim at this time of year but saying that a few people older than us did brave it. The food is very good plenty of choice of salads, hot meals and desserts. We both thought the breakfasts were good, continental or full english available. All the staff were very pleasant and professional. The Tui staff were very friendly and helpful, in fact we don’t usually bother with welcome meetings as all they usually do is try and sell you trips, but not here. The meeting was very informative with lots of local knowledge and introducing us to other members of staff. On your first day there they have a meeting for newcomers and take you on a tour of the hotel together with helpful info, well worth doing. We knew before we went that we probably wouldn’t go out at night after our dinner so were happy to purchase the cash advance offer that was available. Well worth doing if you are planning on staying in the hotel at night. A few reviews on here have mentioned that the drinks are expensive we didn’t find this we thought on the whole they were very reasonable and they do have a ‘ Happy hour ‘ were drinks are discounted. So we ended up having a couple of pre dinner drinks, and I think if you ordered a bottle of wine at this time and you hadn’t finished it , they would keep it behind the bar for you .A couple of nights there is entertainment on, which was ok easy listening and background music. We really enjoyed our time at this lovely hotel and as the title says we wished we had stayed for 2 weeks. We look forward to visiting again hopefully when this terrible virus is over. We wish all the staff well and hope you are safe.

This hotel is reached by a very steep hill, so be prepared to push your luggage up the road and the drive! The coach will not be able to access the last two hills! this is not a problem leaving as a van collects the larger cases. The holtel is well appointed with a pleasant restaurant overlooking the outdoor pool and a bar area. Breakfast provides a very good selection of food and everyone should be able to find lots to their tastes. Dinner provided lots of choices too. Rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms have everything needed.....the shower is over the bath but there is a grab rail which made it easily accessible. Rooms are serviced daily and the standard of cleanliness is excellent...many thanks. The balcony was quite private and gave gorgeous views over the sea and Funchal. The hotel is about 30-40 minutes walk from the centre of the town, but it's a very pleasant walk. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Evening entertainment was excellent. There is one concern i feel i should share. The indoor pool/spa/steam room/sauna complex is lovely, but if you have any kind of disablement (or not!) be very careful as you walk. The floor is covered with shiny tiles and is very slippery when wet, which is inevitable. There are no rails to hang on to and there was a nastly accident whilst we were there. And, like another reviewer, I can heartily recommend a trip down the hill to Cafe Momentus. The cakes are very special and the servers very happy to chat about ingredients and baking methods!

Stayed at this excellent hotel for 3weeks on half board. Both Tui and hotel staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Thanks to Zamir,Tracey, Mhari and Tina for all your advice and fun. We had a sea view room which was great because the sun is across the front of the hotel. It was clean, well decorated and very comfortable. Our chambermaid was a treasure! Food was good quality and there was always plenty of choice. A complementary evening in the Culinarium restaurant was a nice touch. Always plenty of very comfortable sun beds and loved the indoor pool and spa area. The hotel is in a hilly location, takes about 30 mins to walk to Funchal but would recommend taxi back up. There is a wonderful cafe called Momentus just round the corner from the hotel cakes from here are special. Great holiday overall and felt really well cared for

Stayed here for 1 week on a B&B basis in Dec 2019. Great position above Funchal in between the town and the Lido. Steep hill to access the hotel which may not suit all. I had a sea view room which had the sun on the balcony all day. Lovely international standard room, with air con, safe and fridge, all included in the price. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast was very good, extensive choice and buffet service. Tables freshly prepared and clean for each guest. All the staff in reception, bar and restaurant were very friendly and efficient. Bar has happy hour and roof top bar has a wine offer late afternoon. Pool area is bright and clean with many tables and sun beds. Sun beds on the indoor pool roof are so comfortable with large double cushions. Daytime snack offers available around the pool. WiFi access good around the hotel. Great views from the rooftop bar area, also jacuzzi on the roof. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here and will return. The standards of customer service are high and shows in all the staff behaviours.
