Great hotel with amazing pools and views of ocean. Plenty of bars around the hotel which was a plus. Staff were great and I would definitely visit again. Only negative the evening buffet was very poor - food was cold and bland apart from the selection the chefs cooked.

It ticks a lot of boxes for our first trip with a baby. Half board as don’t want to venture far from hotel. Kid friendly so doesn’t matter about noise. Decent sized room with balcony over the sea. Agree with a lot of the reviews on here. This is a large resort hotel with loads of pools by the sea that ticks 5* in terms offering but 4* in terms of quality. Pros - room decent size with balcony and seating area, staff very friendly, location by sea so great view if weather is poor. Walk into town not too far and good proximity to other restaurants outside. Cons - long walk to pool so don’t forget anything. Rooms are dated and worn - no wow / luxurious factor to them and agree with another review that too many mirrors in bathroom. Food average and typical large hotel buffet - hot breakfast is limited but dinner is better. Good choice of meat and fish every night. Coffee is poor which someone else commented. Shame not all the restaurants are open to add variety. Great value hotel given half board so get what you pay for in my mind.

Stayed at Vidamar two nights. Enjoyed it but would not have wanted more than a couple of nights here as prefer a less resort feel we got in other areas of Madeira. Pros: The best thing was the salt water swimming pools which are really spacious and having the sea also was wonderful. Best hotel pools I’ve had! Large bedroom with sofa area with great views of the sea. Location. Large breakfast selection. Cons: Had a bit of a ”Butlins/cruise ship” resort feel, bar service not 5 star, lack of reception staff (we were checking out at 12 and there was only one staff member on the desk for a huge hotel - very poor!), some restaurants currently shut, dive centre shut, some Spa and gym facilities shut, not thinking through the environmental impact of all the needless disposable plastic gloves at the breakfast bar, food at “dine around” buffet was not very edible. Coffee at breakfast was truly awful. Weird walls made of mirrors in the en-suite - no one wants to watch themselves on the toilet - bizarre!!!

This is supposedly a 5* hotel, but does not live up to this standard. I am going to be really picky here, firstly the room was clean and comfortable but the furniture and bathrooms were past their best, a bit 1970 ish. Also plastic backed mattress covers and noisy air con. Secondly, food. The main Ocean restaurant is like a cafeteria and whilst there was a lot of choice on the buffet for both dinner and breakfast, the quality and temperature of the food was not 5 star. When we first booked this trip for May 2020 we had a dine around offer which meant you could choose to eat from 5 different restaurants. Unfortunately and understandably 2 of the restaurants were closed which meant eating at the buffet most nights. We did eat at the Italian one night which was better, and a couple of lunches at the poolside restaurant which were quite good as the food was prepared to order. Thirdly, poolside. The first impression was of concrete, the space would be more attractive if broken up by planters or something similar. There was no bar service at the sunbeds so you had to go and order at the restaurant and it would be brought to you. Think they are missing a trick here as I am sure they would do a lot of business if the staff would go round taking drinks orders. Don’t know if this is something that they did before the pandemic. Pool area was very clean, loved the salt water pools and the sea access for swimming. Lastly the coffee was vile! Don’t know how they managed this in a country that loves coffee. Given that there are lots of hotels in Madeira I doubt that we would stay here again, but we have had a lovely week and will definitely re visit the island.

Went here as part of a half board package for 7 nights. We were Covic 19 tested at the airport on arrival and the results were texted to us at 8.45pm the same evening. (negative) We were then able to enjoy the hotel and Madeira, with the usual precautions in place. The hotel was only about a quarter full, due to the pandemic, so there was no problem with food or sunbeds etc. Our room overlooked the gardens and sea and could not have been better. Super King size bed and spacious bathroom. (nightime lighting not the best, but we really only slept in it.) Due to the numbers of quests, we were able to eat all meals on the outside balcony from the restaurant, although some late comers had to sit inside. Masks and gloves (supplied by hotel) required when getting food from the buffet. Breakfast was from full English to Continental with a large selection. Dinner was similar in varietry but with a nice selcetion os fish during our stay. The house wine at about £14 a bottle was very acceptable. We could not fault the staff, who were clearly ensuring we had a great time and would recommend the hotel. (Paulo (?) certainly topped the bill. There wew no stortage of sunbeds and the 3 infinity pools were salt water (nice for a change) and about 23 degrees . Access to the sea (about 20 degrees) was via 2 jetties with steps. All in all, I can fully recommend this hotel
