Myself and my husband have just returned from our second trip to Madeira, staying again in Graces' family house. We had Grandfathers room which is spacious and has a fantastic view over the fort to the marina. The breakfast arrangements are pleasant, with a chance to chat to other residents. Plenty of advice and enthusiasm for the island and its history from Joe, Cinzia and Grace. Certainly not like staying in a faceless corporate hotel.

Joe met me at the airport and whisked me to the house, but not forgetting to show me useful places like the supermarket, the market, and the local street restaurants. Joe and Cinzia proved to be really wonderful hosts making me feel immediately at home. The kitchen which guests can use is well-equipped. The breakfasts provided by Joe and Cinzia were good, served in a friendly group atmosphere. The rooms are all spacious, my only negative comment is that the windows in the Tower room are frosted, which means in wet windy weather when you have to shut them, there is no view at all. The Grandfather's room seems a much better bet. By the way, the location of the guest house is extremely convenient - there is even an artisan baker down the road who has been there 30 years making excellent cakes - don't forget to try the local speciality custard tarts! Also, there is a small local beach where you can go for an early-morning dip if you want - best at high tide. Locals go there.

Not long back from a lovely week in Vitorina Corte. Cynthia and Joe could not have been better hosts - genuinely helpful and happy people - it was a pleasure to come down to breakfast and enjoy their company. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful and something cooked was also provided each day. There wasn't much that Joe couldn't do with eggs! There was fresh fruit and yogurt, cereal, lovely fresh bread and rolls from the local baker and always a home baked cake! Cynthia and Joe were also very helpful as regards tips for restaurants and were more than happy to book something for us. Grace, the owner, was also there and was more than helpful too. We had the attic room which had the balcony space which we thoroughly enjoyed. If we had to be picky and say anything negative at all it would be that the bathroom could have done with modernising but this didn't worry us. The location for the old town couldn't be more perfect with bars and restaurants within a minute's walk. Our favourite restaurant was O Tasco which was 5 minutes walk up the road. All in all, a really lovely week.

Cinzia and Joe were excellent hosts. We felt like at home and enjoyed their hospitality very much. We appriciated the delicious sausage for breakfast every morning. Joe, we were exited to go with you and charly on the east coast tour, it was a marvelous time with you both. The rooms were very clean and cosy. We had a room with the atlantic view and the sun set was a dream. The guesthouse was very closed, on walking distance to the old town (life music, bars and nice restaurants) and the cablecar to Monte. A good advice don‘t drink more then 3 ponchas! :-) With Cinzis and Joe we have gained two real good new friends and we will come back for sure. Lots of love Angie and Claude from Switzerland

Myself and my husband had a short winter break in this welcoming home on a beautiful island. Grace, Cinzia and Joe were fantastic hosts, with a wealth of knowledge about the area and the house, Graces' family home. Breakfast varied daily with specials of waffles, omelettes and a tomato/onion/eggs dish. Fried egg and bacon also an option along with fresh bread, yoghurt, cereal and fruit. This was a great chance to chat to other guests about their day trips around the island. Huge Bedroom, we had Grandfathers room, with sea view and en-suite shower. Plenty of storage. Nicely decorated throughout with traditional furniture and family knick knacks. No idenikit flat pack furniture here. In the warmer months guests can use the shady garden area. Extremely handy for Funchal, occasional noise from the road but it makes you feel part of the buzz of the place and certainly didnt disturb us. Best restaurant was 200 meters up the hill at O'Tasco. dont miss going to the local fruit and fish market, even if just to look.
