We stayed four days in the Takamaka chalet in Union Estate. We booked through Seyvillas (not by choice). They want full payment up front. Arrival information was slow in coming and ultimately inaccurate. Don't expect any privileged treatment. It took over an hour and a half to get from the jetty to the chalet. Long wait (for another boat); no seating, no shade, and it was hot at midday. We were then herded with all the other guests at the Digue Island Lodge to the hotel where we had to wait for everyone to check in. The chalets are in a good location, just behind the beach, but the first thing to say is that they are definitely not "luxurious" as they are presented extensively in the advertising and the hotel presentations. They are very ordinary inside. The bedrooms and bathrooms are ok (although the showers need regrouting). The living/kitchen area is old and decrepit. I pointed out extensive water/moisture stains on the ceilings and walls to the Italian lady who showed us round. She said: "If you have any comments, talk to the desk." End of conversation. There is 1 TV channel. There is no WIFI. This is 2017 - and NO WIFI. The wiring is old and visible. The lighting is with stark, bright, horrible white LED bulbs, inside and out. No effort has been made with the decor: no lamps, no rugs or cushions, no vases, bowls or objets d'art apart from two tacky pictures on the walls. No atmosphere. The kitchen is ancient. The cooker has rusty electric hobs. The pans were in a disgusting state. We asked for them to be replaced and were given 3 new ones the next day. Cutlery and flatware was all mismatched and dirty. There were no decent knives. No wooden spoons. No tin-opener! A total of 4 glasses, in 3 different sizes. No provisions. We stayed at 2 other self-catering places in the Seychelles which provided all the basics (S&P, oil, milk, water, bread, butter, jam, eggs etc) Apart from some sachets of tea and instant coffee, here there was nothing, not even any salt and pepper. For a so-called self-catering accommodation, they clearly do not want you to eat in the chalet. We had been told meals could be ordered. This was not the case. We had been told there was a free shuttle to and from the hotel. This was not the case either, unless we were going to eat at the hotel restaurant. (Where the food is very average, by the way). The cushions for the outdoor furniture were dirty and stained. All in all, very poor facilities and service. The privileged access to Anse Source d'Argent is a bonus, of course. But that does not justify the high price. One has the right to expect more; perhaps not "luxury", even if that is what is supposedly on offer, but at least something decent and attractive, and a service worthy of the name. Not recommended.

We stayed in chalet for 5 nights. The chalet has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (bath+shower), 1 living-room, equipped kitchen, nice terrace with furniture and outside shower after swimming, also sun-beds in front of the chalet. We rented bikes for 5 days and drove around the island. Also we took a ride for breakfast or dinner (also it was possible to ask hotel car to take you to the meal for free) Chalet is located right on Union beach and has great view to the most famous beach of La Digue - Anse Source d'Argent. Really good accommodation.

We stayed 2 nights in chalet "Takamaka" and we wanted to stay much longer! The location of the chalets is out of this world! Right on the beach of Anse Source D'Argent. Walking around is like you are in a dream! We rented bikes for 3 days. It was wonderful and so relaxing to go with the bike to breakfast (we had half board at the La Digue Island Lodge). The chalets were very spacious (two bedrooms , two bathrooms with each bathroom having 2 seperate sinks), a kitchen, a living area and an amazing terrass. The bathrooms seemed to be renovated not long time ago. The rest of the interior is basic, but you don't nothing else with such a location. The last day we were offerred the possibility to use the A-frame chalets of the La Digue Island Lodge to take a shower before we left (checkout time at Estate Chalets was 10u30). The A-frame chalets were definately not the kind of place we wanted to stay. We were very happy we had a spacious chalet for the two of us at the most amazing beach! If we could, we would go back immediately!

Spent two nights on half board basis, with meals taken at the La Digue Island Lodge (free shuttle). Our chalet was perfectly clean, with large accomodation, nice outdoor "terrasse", beach chairs, etc. With only four villas (two of them unoccupied), located in a park that is supposed to be closed from 5 pm to 9 am, quietness is guaranteed. And having the park, and access to famous anse source d'argent beach, for yourself is great. Meals at the Island Lodge were good (if you order wine and do not finish your bottle, the restaurant does not keep it for you: you are asked to take the bottle back to your room and then back to the restaurant for next meal. Strange and un convenient when your room is a chalet you reach with a shuttle...). Shuttle always responded to our move requests (within 15 minutes) and luggage delivery or check-in / out perfectly organized. Anyhow people including both tourists and locals do come in the park when gate is closed as it is easy to walk along the beach (but safety / security not at stake). Furthermore, at low tide, it is impossible to swim or even soak in the ocean in front of the villa and beaches within walking distance have the same drawbacks (soaking possible at L'Anse Source d'Argent; otherwise: shuttle to La Digue Island Lodge to use pool). Quietness comes at a price: having to call for a shuttle to reach the Island Lodge (where meals are taken and from which bicycles can be rent for isntance). Sometimes we had to argue to get a shuttle when we had already made the "breakfast" rotation. With a location at the very end of the one and only road of the island, the chalets are not well located to explore the island. Finally, even if chaletsdeare not numerous they are close to each other so do not expect the top of intimacy. That is why the chalets seem to me appropriate for people wanting to stay on their own (chalet have a large kitchen) instead of using the Island Lodge restaurant. Or for short stays only. As for us, after two days, we were tired of using the shuttle and started getting bored with the unswimmable beaches around us.

We stayed in one of the four chalets at l'Union Estate. The accomodation is basic but we were not going there expecting luxurious accomodation nor extraordinary service. What makes this place outstanding is the location. It is right on a beautiful beach with a view of the granite rocks of Anse Source d'Argent and Praslin. During our stay, there was only one couple in another bungalow for a couple of days so we basically had the beach to ourselves. Views of sunsets over Praslin are spectacular. It is also a 10 minutes walk from anse Source D'Argent which you can really enjoy in the morning before the crowd comes. For meals, we were riding bicycles to the various restaurants in the island (headlamps for riding the bikes at night are a must). We enjoyed the tranquility of Union Estateand we will definitely stay there again when we return to Seychelles.
