LOCATION That’s probably the only advantage- geographic location. OR Tambo is 15-min (14km) away and Eastgates is opposite the road. The townhouse-like apartment structure is spacious, with kitchenette, lounge and 2 bedrooms, suitable for families. ACCOMMODATION and SERVICE However, there were only 2 bath towels for our party of 5 persons. We phoned reception and requested the manager on duty (Jason), who informed us the laundry service had not brought in any clean linen that day and they were still communicating with the service. This is a problem of management, not an escuse for customers. I suggested they search other rooms, but was told no towels were available for the entire premises. An accommodation establishment should be declared non-functioning if the basic essentials such as towels are not available. That is akin to saying no bedsheets available, what would they have the guest then do? Sleep without bedsheets? We made multiple inquiries, yet there was no regard for the discomfort of guests and the rest of us did not bath that evening. There was also no feedback as promised on the matter as we waited in vain eventually falling asleep. If linen is unavailable, don’t sell the rooms. The next day I related our misfortunes with Sindy on check-out, who acknowledged the event, but made no further plan to escalate or solve the issue. I inquired whether the swimming towels were used to supplement the shortage, but was told there were plenty of towels onsite? Perhaps senior management needs to be involved. A search through previous reviews shows that this is a recurrent, ongoing problem!? ROOMS General appearance is outdated and shabby. The kitchen kettle cord is too short, as one is unable to pour without disconnecting the plug. WIFI and aircon functioned, but no aircon in bedroom. As breakfast was not included in our package, we drove out to eat in the morning. Imagine our surprise when we returned at 10am to find a housekeeper putting the finishing touches of cleaning the room. Luckily we had removed our belongings, but we had a drink in the fridge which was removed and opened. She remarked that she thought we checked out[?], we still had our room cards and no apology given! SUMMARY Would choose another establishment for the price paid. Management and staff communication deficient, clearly substandard and ignorant.

Unfortunately my entire stay at the hotel was the worst I could ever experience in any hotel chain I have ever stayed at. 1 - TRANSFER: I had previously booked a shuttle provided by the hotel. I passed the flight information and arrival time, and yet, upon arrival, I had to wait approximately 40 minutes for the arrival of the transport. In the meantime it was very complicated to keep in touch via phone as the driver hung up on me before we broke up the conversation. 2 - ROOM: I was assigned to a room that did not match what I had booked. The bathroom light was not working and the room smelled very bad. It looked like some animal was dead inside. I went back to the front desk and directed me to another room, in the same pattern. 3- TOWELS: There were no towels available to use in the room. I went back to the front desk to request new towels and Jason (the receptionist) told me that the laundry staff had not returned the clean towels to the hotel. So he had no towels available to provide me. I was in a hotel that had no bath.

It was good to stay at your Hotel and everything from my check in to check out even the room was clean and i had good time. The only think i can say its every time the house keeping work at the room the key was blocked

I turned down the first room I was offered because the lock and security lach were broken . I couldn't believe that they would leave the door in that condition. The room I was finally given had the Aircon not working I stayed there for 5 days and they still didn't repair it. The bath tub was dirty and signs of mould around it were visible. I had to struggle to pull out the trash bin. The steel chair seat at the table is loose. The bedside light does not function.. With all these problems one wonders what is the job of the House Keeper and hi/her team?. I suggested previously that the Hotel owners need to employ a well paid Hands on Housekeeper who should demand and get daily reports from his/her crew on the condition of each room. Mercure Hotel Eastgate has been my home away from home since the early 2000s and it breaks my heart to see this fine facility degenarating like this.

The location of the hotel is convenient as it is next to a shopping mall. The hotel rooms require deep cleaning & fumigation, while the carpets need replacing as they have a serious stench. The dining experience is limited but the is a food court which offers great variety at the shopping mall. I would not recommend the hotel rooms in their current state.
