The property is well located. The views are amazing and it’s ideal for the Sami pass. The staff at the reception and restaurant were really good. We checked in late as we drove in from far. The toilet in our hotel room was so dirty, you could literally see urine on the seat. We had to sleep in a room with a toilet like that because we were told housekeeping only works from 6 am to 6pm. You’d think that at 6am they would be knocking on our door to clean the dirty toilet... No! The following morning our toilet was cleaned after 8:00am after having to call housekeeping and the reception twice. The head of the housekeeping department didn’t appear to see the problem, even with the urine marks all over the seat! We felt this was such a big issue but it was not taken seriously even after talking to management about it.

Myself & my Son spent the past weekend at the resort. It was a comedy of errors from the minute we arrived. I had emailed and called the Resort prior to driving up, as the main reason we went to this hotel was so that we could go to the top of the Sani Pass. No one responded to my mail or my phone call when I tried to book the excursion. If they had done, I may have been told that I would need a passport, as we had to cross the Lesotho border. So after a drive of over 7 hours from Joburg, and on arrival, asking to book the outing, we were told it wouldn't be possible. Perhaps I should've known this (geography has never been my strong point), but it would've been nice to have been informed by the hotel staff. We then decided to have a drink after our drive. The waitress who served us within minutes of arriving was a trainee, with no training that was obvious and I really felt for her. My Son asked for a draught, he received a half empty glass, and when asked if it could be topped up, was told that she'd made a mistake, and that the draft was finished, the half glass was all he could have. We asked for two tequilas. We were given two different size shot glasses - one miniature and one much larger, and I asked for a Heineken, was given it with no glass, which didn't matter as I would drink beer from the bottle anyway, but it wasn't open, and when I asked if it could be opened, the bottle opener was put on the table and left for me. We had a good chuckle, but I felt for her, as it was evident she was nervous and any training she had been given was non existent. Fast Forward to dinner time. A buffet - basically could've called it Covid On A Plate. Granted, the staff dished up for you, it wasn't a free for all, but the plates you helped yourself to, they were in a common area, every singe person in the dining room had access to them & could touch them, and the condiments also sitting on the counter could be used by everyone and were touched by two children in the line in front of us. I am not highly strung about covid at all, but I had it last year, and definitely don't want to be doing it again. The fact that proper regulations were not in place here, is staggering to me. We're in the middle of a global pandemic. I could see how a third wave is possible, if other hotels are following suit. We didn't eat in the hotel for the rest of the weekend. We chose to eat out at the few small places there were in Himeville (special shout out to the Whistling Goat - they have only been open a few weeks. Food was delicious, hospitality outstanding), and at every other place we visited, covid regulations were strictly in place. The suite we were in was lovely, I have to say. Few odd things though. There was a kitchen area, and a dining room table in the suite. However, there wasn't as much as a teaspoon in the drawers (other than with your coffee cups). Not a plate, nor a glass. Not sure what use the dining room table has as you'd have to take your own kitchen with you to be able to use it. The fridge was situated in a cupboard , but with no plug point, we had to take the fridge out of the cupboard and balance it on the counter top to be able to use it. There was a complimentary bottle of wine in the room, but not a single glass in sight. (not even a straw lol) We had to call reception to ask for two wine glasses and an ice bucket. They managed to give us two glasses, but there were no ice buckets, but we did get given two glasses with some ice in which was fine. We went for a hike on Saturday morning, and on our return, went for a few drinks on the patio. It wasn't busy. We were able to place an order & were given a drink each, but half an hour later, we had finished our drinks and not a soul came near us to offer us another. We tried to call another Waiter - he said he would be with us shortly, but we sat so long, that we simply got up from the table and went back to our room. I can't even say that service is poor at this hotel. It is non existent. Even down to the lady who opens the gate to the resort when you arrive - warm welcome??!! Don't be ridiculous - not at all. Not once did a smile ever cross her dial. The Reception ladies were very friendly, no problems there. The pools were slightly green (it didn't seem to stop others using the under cover one), and I'd say that everything outside just looks a little tired. There is a spa which we weren't able to use unfortunately as it was fully booked which was understandable over a long weekend. If you want to stay somewhere for the view - this is the place to be - but for anything else - give it an absolute body swerve.

We took a small breakaway from the covid mayhem to celebrate our anniversary and we were absolutely glad we chose this hotel. The hotel and rooms were clean, neat and hygienic (covid protocols in place) and upmarket. We didn't use much facilities but there are plenty to offer. It was a pity borders were closed but we will definitely return to take a trip up the mountain. The food was excellent, a variety to meet every need( the butternut cake is to die for). The staff were excellent, management Be proud of them , they were on the ball. Two individuals that need a mention for going over and beyond are your head chef(Brad Bridely) and waiter/barren (Wilfred Maphele) don't even loose them, they are gems. Overall is you looking for a relaxing quiet getaway premier resort Sami pass is it

Arrived early 12 noon. I had booked an executive room but was allocated a standard room then had to wait until 2.30pm to check in. The desk then changed the booking to executive! No hot water was available on the first day was told they had no gas. (New Years Day). The room was large and fairly clean. But on checking the bed I found the mattress cover was filthy and stained with what look like blood. The view from the room was good overlooking part of the golf course but the weather restricted the view of the mountains somewhat. The patio area consisted of two chairs and needed a good sweep/clean. Dinner was available R260 per head buffet. The Al a Carte menu was not available after 4pm which I thought restricted peoples choice as there is no where else to eat in the area. (Himeville completely dead). Unfortunately the weather was poor the whole weekend and the rain didn't let up. No one was at the pool area, the Spa, the playground etc. The lounges were fairly empty and some resorted to playing board games. I think the hotel could have organised either Bingo or some movies to keep guests occupied as I heard a few complaining of boredom. I have visited this hotel a few times in the past way back in the 80's when the accommodation was rondavels and a few years back when they were renovating the chalets. Nothing much has changed. All the outside areas need a good overhaul and clean.
