Certainly not worth the money when it comes to food and service. We waited 20 minutes in a line to be seated. No one explained why we were waiting or hosted us. Shocking treatment. Buffet staff and setup is appalling. Very unfriendly and unprofessional. Food ran out. Nothing labeled. Rooms are nice.

My stay at this hotel was a tremendous success. Not only was this wheelchair friendly it is right on the doorstep of my favourite place in the world: The Kruger National Park. It is on the bank of the Sabie river. At night the animals for example elephants can be seen from the deck. The layout, architecture and decor was amazing. The room was comfortable. There were even a TV and a fridge inside the room. The bed and bathroom was spacious and there were a lot storage place. The hotel grounds is spread around big Jackalberry trees that creates a magic vibe. This place is for everyone. Kids, teenagers, young adults, actual adults pensioners. Everyday there was buffet breakfast. Lunch was ala carte. At sunset everybody could enjoy a sundowner on the deck and then dinner commenced under the stars in the river boma. Starters and dessert are already prepared. There are always a few options. The main course is also buffet. The lodge has some very caring staff members. Cledy, Mishack, Donald, Goodness, Tina and so many others made my stay very enjoyable. They are very attentive, courteous and professional. The lodge has other attractions. There is a spa, a few swimming pools (in fact one of them is on the deck overlooking the river.) There is also a sitting room, a curio shop, a tennis and mini-golf course and a gym. The lodge also implemented Covid-19 measures. Our temperature were taken everyday and everyone wore a mask. Social distancing was also kept. I really hope my review helped you in any way. Like the Terminator said, "I'll be back!"

The resort is located a few hundred metres from the Kruger Gate which is convenient for entering the Kruger Gate. We had a number of sightings close to the gate. We stayed in a chalet which was well equipped. The lodge has good facilities and is well kept. There were some issues on checking in but the manager was excellent in the way it got sorted out. There are staff shortages due to the lock-down but they are trying their best. Definitely recommend a stay at the resort.

I was privileged to stay at Protea Hotel by Marriott Kruger gate this weekend. The newly refurbished hotel is fantastic. The upgraded and new rooms are spacious, modern and beautiful decorated. Francois, Relax and the team are doing a fantastic job. The service was great and the dining experiencing was also great and all Covid protocol was adhered to which made a guest feel very safe. This hotel has prime location and the new pool and viewing deck make a great place to view the animals and birdlife.

Hotel offers a real African ambience and is in a remote location far from civilization. It is right next to an entrance to Kruger National Park. When on viewing deck or infinity pool you often see wildlife (or occasionally elephants). Unfortunately I had a very bad experience and even thou the hotel is more likely to be a destination hotel for foreigners the level of service and quality is very poor. I booked through my Marriot Bonvoy membership and was disappointed with certain levels of service that is not on accordance with Marriot Bonvoy. Being the first weekend after COVID Restrictions one would have expected the hotel to be excited and grateful towards their visitors for supporting them, instead we experienced several customer service non-performances. Hygiene levels poor, Covid related protocol not enforced. Food quality a real disappointment and poor reflection on SA’s natural produce. Being Muslim we experienced a serious misinformation regarding halaal (kosher) food which resulted in us traveling over 30kms everyday to buy food even thou we paid for breakfast and dinner. What was more disappointing is that the manager did nothing to assist in making our stay comfortable after such a distraught issue. He made no attempt to arrange the Halaal food that we paid for. I also asked him to come see me when he was on duty so I could educate him regarding the matter as the hotel was misinformed on the matter and was sharing false information to Muslims. During and after the stay he NEVER contacted me. Instead he gave a poor discount which couldn’t even compensate for the half the fuel we had to use to travel to purchase our food let alone the food itself. I found the hotel managers behavior to be of concern and benighted. Service levels in general were very poor. We waited 30mins to check in. Had to wait quite some time for a porter. Always had to wait a long time for assistance or other. Even thou we paid extra for amenities and toiletries we had to continuously ask for it. All of this after hotels were closed for months. We expected much better services but seems this hotel management has a no concern attitude. Often the front desk had only 1 staff member doing several tasks. (Answering calls, checking guests in, concierge serving). Kids play areas were very poorly maintained and were full of dirt and wildlife droppings. I hope the hotel improves as to express the potential SA has to offer. Most Bonvoy members come from abroad and it would be a bitter taste to portray such a poor outlook of what SA has to offer. I would not return to the hotel in a hurry.
