We had a booking for 6 nights in April made through Booking.com
As Spain was in full lockdown, travel restrictions were in place and we had to cancel our trip, the hotel was also I might add, not actually open during this time.
After several emails the hotel finally agreed to a partial refund but after I sent them my bank details, I was told that they also now needed a "bank certificate" in order to prove the account was mine! I don't know if they have a lot cases of customers trying to launder money through their refund scheme but I found the whole experience tiresome, contrived and unnecessarily complicated.
I travel regularly but have never once been asked for a bank certificate (not even sure what it is tbh) to receive a refund for services not rendered.
To date, I have still not received any refund.
