We had made a reservation in the hotel restaurant. When we arrived there the very blunt and unfriendly staff person did not know of anything, later on he had found the reservation. The service was absolutely appauling and the food quite disgusting. The staff are unfriendly and not at all service oriented. I would not recommend this Restaurant to anyone.

If you still cherish the values of a family run hotel, where the staff know you by name and delight in making sure that your stay is as exactly as you wish, then read on … We heard about the Hotel Bären as an “insider tip” from some Swiss friends. The value for money is extremely good (for anyone who has never visited Switzerland before, eradicate the exclamation “How Much!!!!!” from your vocabulary, before you cross the border). We managed to combine a seminar in Interlaken, with a few days holiday – enjoying the fresh air, beautiful landscape and wonderful walking routes. In this 300-year-old hotel (it’s OK, the mattresses are not the original ones), you get a real tase of Alpine living – surrounded by mountains, and only a 10-minute walk from the railway-station. The old adage, that you should never trust a thin cook, is particularly appropriate at the Hotel Bären – and wait to see how the Head Chef illuminates, once you’ve sampled what comes out of his kitchen and given him the complements he deserves. The organisation in the hotel can only be compared to the exactness of the legendary skills of Swiss watch-makers – a huge thanks to the reception & back-office team. If you’re looking for a rustical hidden treasure in the Swiss Alps, then don’t hesitate – call or mail them now, to make sure they have a special place for you. This was our first visit – and certainly won’t be our last …

We stopped here on our way back from Trümmbach-Fälle and wanted to have lunch. As a family of 5, 3 adults and 2 children, we asked if we could have lunch and were told, “yes”, and given a table outside. Another family was ordering from the menu at that time (13:45). We were given the menus and the next time the waiter appeared he said, “Sorry, we can no longer serve you”. A bit confused, frustrated and disappointed we got up and left! We were given no explanation, the chef decided to stop serving! There were 3 other tables having lunch and 1 other table had just ordered! We saw them looking at the menus when we arrived. We knew it was late according to Swiss meal timing, but we asked and were told it was ok! We left and found an Italian restaurant in the same town (Luna Piccante) who accepted us with open arms and were very friendly. We will never try to go back to the Hotel Bären!

We returned again in July for our summer vacation, and have just booked again for next year. This hotel might be old and creaky, but has great character, and is always clean. The staff are very friendly, and if there is something we want, like pillows that are not feather, they happily provide . The breakfasts have great choice , and the evening meal this year was very good. Some guests are downright rude to staff, but they take it and never complain. Going back to this hotel is like going home, with a warm welcome and a fab view from our room choice. Don't listen to negative reviews, if you have good manners and are friendly, you will get the same in return. It's a fab location, short walk to station and bus stop nearby .

This review is long but beneficial for the tourists. I, along with my family visited Switzerland in October and stayed at hotel Baeren, Interlaken for 3 nights. The rooms are pretty good however the bathrooms are too small to fit in thereby making it uncomfortable for tourists. The bathrooms are so small that while using the sink or the shower, naturally, the bathroom floors will get flooded. So the flooding(i.e. the littlest of water on the bathroom floor) took place in our bathroom the day after we checked in and the hotel staff(s) left a note in our room mentioning a penalty of CHF 250 if the bathroom was seen flooded. So, if there are penalties for trivialities in the rooms then the hotel should have mentioned that earlier while we were checking in. The staff in the reception didn't utter a single word about the do's and don'ts of the hotel. All he did was behave rudely if a question was asked more than once. Similarly, the same thing happened at my in-laws' room. The hotel left a note but, given the age of my in-laws', they were fatigued after the all day long journey they didn't notice it. Moreover the next day it was discovered that there was a leakage under the sink which they wanted to report to to the hotel staff but unfortunately, there was no one in the reception to complain to. I've never come across a hotel in my entire life (until now) where the reception operates for 12 hours (8 am -8 pm). Neither did we get time in the morning to report nor in the evening. On the 4th day we left for Zurich and checked out of the hotel at 9:30 in the morning. During our visit to Rhinefall we got a message saying that CHF 250 was charged by this aforementioned hotel. Why? Because, allegedly, my in-laws'bathroom was flooded. So my point is if they had to charge the money they should have told that before we left. Also, if they had to charge why did they do it after 5 hours(when we had already checked into another hotel, that too in Zurich). We had submitted our room keys to the receptionist and he even thanked us but when we questioned the hotel about not telling us before charging an exorbitant amount they mentioned that we "ran away" as if we were "in a hurry" to flee. The hotel has charged us illegally. The hotel staffs are nothing but liars. The hotel deals in a very unprofessional manner. They have literally backstabbed us. In order to prove their point so that they can get the money they have lied about many such things. We stayed in the second floor but they've showed water leaking from first floor to ground floor. Then they have mentioned that we ran away but it's completely untrue since while handing over the room key we were thanked by the receptionist.
