I highly recommend this pearl of a traditional and unique Swiss Grand hotel in the Upper Engadine valley of Sils-Maria as well as its personal and friendly touch and environment as the owner family personally welcomes and says goodbye to you. Moreover, I felt extremely safe and comfortable as they have professionally implemented respective COVID-19 measures. Finally, I extremely enjoyed my stay and will be back soon! Many thanks for this wonderful stay to Mr. Claudio and Patrick Dietrich and all the professional Waldhaus staff!

The Waldhaus is truly an authentic grand hotel located in one of the most beautiful regions in Switzerland - the Engadine and the scenic Val Fex. The warm hospitality of the family who owns the hotel is something to be celebrated as it is truly a rare sight. The spa facilities are clearly focused on quality and there is well sized pool. The gym is relatively small with limited body weight equipment but several different cardio machines are available. The management tries to keep the hotel as authentic as possible and that is a joy in the communal areas (reading room, the bar, the beautiful and sizable lounge encircled with high windows) but some of the rooms tend to have furniture that is getting tired. My main recommendation point is for the restaurant staff to get training in English language. I have not encountered one person in the restaurant who spoke fluently English and my order was often taken from staff who didn’t speak any english language at all - and that create a real struggle to get a good service even with the best effort. That being said, everyone in the restaurant was very welcoming and helpful. The Waldhaus is the door to a truly old school authentic grand hotel experience - couldn’t imagine anything more authentic in these terms.

The atmosphere of calm is unique in this more than a 100 year old palace. Everything works; very friendly and helpful staff. The owners family is actively present in all aspects of the mechanics of such a big house. One really feels well here.

Sils Maria is one of our favorite places in Switzerland. During an early visit we came upon this hotel so we planned on staying for the next visit. It didn’t disappoint. Service and food were superb with a touch of personal welcome from the family owners. And the hotel (and the family) has such fascinating history as well based on the book they gave us. Unfortunately not everything was fine on our last breakfast. We wanted to order from the menu but it took awhile to catch any of the staff’s attention. We eventually did but when the food came, they got one wrong and forgot another. I ordered omelet with peppers but got a plain one. I reminded the staff what I ordered and I got an omelet with mushrooms instead! I love mushrooms and was hungry already so I just ate it. The forgotten order was for my youngest child, whose birthday it was we were celebrating during our stay in the hotel. We have to remind the staff of the order and it came quite late - my two other kids were almost done with their breakfast. It made my youngest remark that he didn’t really feel special during his birthday weekend - we had to make it up to him when we got home. To be fair, the hotel gave a cake on my child’s actual birthday a couple of days before. It was a nice touch and cheered him up. Hopefully, it was just a fluke since we would really love to have a regular hotel in our favorite place.

Simply put whoever is running this place is basically doing everything right. If this were a country it would come close to Utopia. Attentive staff, scrupulous cleanliness. No rip-offs at the wine list. Food good - excellent. Impressive gym with quite good kit. Impressive pool. Great clay courts. Concierge that is first class. Laundry superb. Criticism ? Only one : please don’t shut - open all year !
