There was no way I was going to spend all 5 nights in chaotic Bangkok so was looking for somewhere to relax in Ayutthaya for 3 of them.
I wanted something peaceful and out of the city centre but close to the historic park.
Baan Penny is a little oasis located in the suburbs surrounded by families going about their daily business.
There are 8 almost new bungalows in a walled compound amongst beautifully kept gardens. The bungalows are kept spotlessly clean, mine had a large king size bed, and are reasonably spacious.
But what makes this place special is that the owners live on site in their own house at the back of the compound and literally bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Every morning Gerhard ( who speaks excellent English) after an excellent breakfast would advise where to go and what to do. He organises a tut tut for you at a far cheaper price than you get on the street to tour the wats.
The restaurant he recommended to me, the Raan Tha Luang ( see my review), was the best restaurant I’ve eaten at in my whole trip.
If tut tuts were difficult to get, as they can be in this city away from tourist sites, his wife would drive me to where I wanted to go.
There is a typical suburban convenience shop about 30 metres from entrance which sells cheap cold beer and other everyday items
If you want a tranquil, relaxing and well run place to stay out of the city centre than this is it
