The pictures rarely match the reality when you book cheap accommodation. This is certainly the case here. The “romantic” setting in the mountains is quite close to a main highway where trucks and motorcycles hoon up and down all day. In the afternoon there is the added bonus of low flying aircrafts. But at night the highlight is the band and karaoke/open mic pulsating through the room from the restaurant next door. I agree with other reviewers that the staff is friendly and they apologised that the wifi wasn’t working when we asked about it. This was rectified by our second night. Breakfast at 100B was overpriced for Thailand, given that it was instant coffee and they had run out of eggs after feeding the other six people there. They did, however, rectify that and cooked up a nice plate of scrambled eggs with accompaniments. But it was at the lower end of breakfasts I’ve had around the world. The rooms are spacious but in need of some TLC. The bed was rock hard and clearly designed to promote the massage industry in town. There were ants and the bathroom was dark and dank. The shower gave either a gush of cold water or a trickle of hot. There was a kettle but no cups. It’s quite a walk to the centre of town and the walk back is up a steep hill past some fairly unfriendly dogs, as noted by other travellers. The D2 is cheap and is not the worst place I’ve stayed in. It could, though, be so much better with a little care - although I’m not sure what to do about the music next door other than join it.

Staff were really friendly, the huts and setting was very nice and felt authentic. The location was good - close to the centre although about a 10 minute walk up a steep hill which was quite scary in the dark (lots of growling and chasing dogs) - but we rented a moped very easily from the hotel itself for only 100 baht a day and this solved the scary hill problem! Good WiFi, nice rooms, would recommend!

We arrived at d2 pai resort after a nice trip from Chiang Mai. There was nowhere mentioned it was a long trip from the busstop to the resort, not to forget a very steep hill that took twenty minutes and avoiding a pack of rabid dogs to climb up. When we got there we were beat and all the receptionist people said was pay now please. So, just like everywhere in Thailand, we had to pay beforehand. Till now we were never disappointed. We got to our room and it was terrible. It was dirty, the fan did not work and the closet, shower, and desk were all broken. So we went back to reception and told them we were checking out again because not only it was very far from everything, the room did not suffice and did not look anything like the pictures. We asked for a refund, we were there literally 5 minutes there. And then a sign was pulled out from behind a plant saying in very small letters: no refunds in any case. After trying multiple times to explain why it is a criminal offense to not give refunds they played the ‘I don’t speak good english’ card and that was it. Please do not go here, it is a scam, every room is exactly the same. You can see it when they lead you to your room. We then called the medio de pai hotel and they had a room for us. Amazing hotel, go there, it is in the middle of Pai and the rooms are great.

On arrival, you have to pay in cash. The receptionist speak very limited English, but with gestures you can get by. We hired mopeds via the hotel, costing 230b a day. You can get them cheaper in town for 100b a day, but for convenience we just got them there and then. They were in good condition. You have to leave your passport as a deposit, but this was returned promptly when handing back keys. The cabin was clean and spacious for 2 people. The site is located at the top of a big hill, it is about 15 minutes walk to walking street. The hill does have a lot of territorial dogs, but if you are on a moped they don't bother you. I would not recommend walking past these dogs as they did go for me. The breakfast was nice and freshly cooked. It consisted of either fried or scrambled eggs with sausages and ham along with fresh fruit and toast. There is also tea and coffee available. We stayed at the top right of the site (I am not sure whether this was to do with mother's Day weekend) the restaurant next door to the site, played very loud Thai music, until the early hours of the morning every night during our 3 night stay. If this is a regular occurrence I would recommend requesting a cabin on the left at the bottom of the hill, as this may shelter you from the noise. On checkout, the third party taxi that we booked did not arrive. The receptionist was very helpful and arranged alternative transport for us straight away. All in all we had a very pleasant stay here and would not hesitate to return.

Myself and my boyfriend spent three nights in D2 Pai. The price was reasonable considering the resort is very clean, rooms are big and air con is great. Staff are friendly but not the best English. However, we did not realize how far away the resort is, it’s about 20min walk from the Centre and it is up a steep hill that are guarded by some very aggressive dogs. There are hundreds of stray dogs in Pai and most are completely fine. But the dogs you have to walk past on your way from the resort to pai are far from friendly. The first night we walked down they approached us and barked and growled at us. I was very worried they would pursue us. That night walking back in the dark they stood at the top of the hill and barked down at us. We tried to get a hotel at the bottom of the hill to order us a taxi, but there are no taxis around at night. He kindly dropped us up (which makes me think they would have bitten us). From then on we decided to rent a motorbike - which you kind of need for getting around Pai anyways so it wasn’t a big inconvenience. We ordered one bike from the hotel and paid 400baht for two days between us. We realized later that if you hire a bike from the town it is only about 100baht a day. They take your passport as a deposit but they came back whenever we needed so that was good. Overall I really enjoyed the stay, the rooms are lovely and it is very quiet. The only negative is it’s abit far out and I’d be worried about the dogs, especially at night. Once your on a bike, they don’t take any notice of you driving by. Good value for money and a comfortable stay.
