Clean, affordable, family hotel - lovely family, made us so welcome on our return trip. Hotel has two swimming pools and is right next to the beach which is very clean. Very affordable restaurants just outside hotel, but Marina Villa also served decent breakfasts and lunches. Friendly staff, rooms clean. Stayed there four or five times now, and would still go back. This is not a luxury hotel, nor a backpackers shack. You get what you pay for, a mid range family run hotel which is clean and inexpensive. Hotel will arrange for private to take you to Nathone/Airport/Day trip. Local bus service available (in a sort of covered pick up truck with seats) right outside hotel - every few minutes. Negotiate price with driver before starting journey, and ring bell when you want him to stop. Walk along the beach or main street at night to find hotel restaurants and bars serving evening meals. Vendors selling ice creams, grilled chicken, inflatables, sarongs etc walking along the beach during the day, but they don't bother you. This hotel is excellent for families and/or couples. Small night market in Lamai every night, and a larger one just down the road on Sundays. They like to haggle! But if you go back too often, remember what you offered last time, cos they will remember you. Great holiday destination, will go back one day.

Firstly if I could give it 3 1/2 I would... We stayed here 3 years ago and liked this resort.. The rooms are comfortable and most of the staff are lovely.. This time we stayed in low season ( resort nearly empty) and 3 years on we noticed some changes. The resort itself is still lovely but it is getting really tired with some staff seeming a little too comfortable in their positions. We had a big chunk missing out of our bathroom vanity and the mirror was starting to discolour. There were ants in the room ( just a few ) that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Since we stayed last time they have renovated the beach pool but the other pool has missing tiles and really needs some work and I dont think the pool furniture has been cleaned in years, with many of the mattresses cracked or broken. While we were there some new poolside furniture and mattresses appeared in a stack at one end of the pool ... and thats where they stayed the whole time. Would have been nice if they had been put out to replace the worst of what it actually there, Oh and neither waterfalls work anymore and the main pool has a light hanging out of the wall!! The beach is lovely in front of the resort , we swam most days. One of the big points of difference between this resort and the 2 neighboring ones is that each night you see the neighboring resorts collect the mattresses from the banana chairs so they dont get wet with the tropical night storms ... and every morning they put them back out , arrange the chairs nicely and generally get their part of the beach ready for their guests... this doesnt happen at Marina Villa. Chairs are left where they are and if mattresses get wet , so be it, in fact a beach umbrella blew over in a storm and stayed there for 2 days until one of the guests picked it up. The resort does have a restaurant and while the food is ok and reasonably priced, the staff are not... One staff member that we encountered everytime we attempted to eat there was extremely rude and if Im honest would not have a job if I owned the place.. Doesnt pay attention to what you are actually ordering and when she gets it wrong argues the point that that shes right even when you have a whole table telling her otherwise. When you attempt to eat there you are made to feel like you are interrupting the staffs time on their phones ( which they are on whilst lying around the restaurant floor all the time!!!).There is no atmosphere in the restaurant, no music playing , no flowers ... nothing.. and dont expect to get any pool service for drinks or food its just too much trouble. ( a wasted money making opportunity if you ask me) Dont bother to eat here its a joke. At the end of the day this resort could be amazing, its a little sad to see it slipping like this... It is close to everything , whilst still be quiet and has a beautiful stretch of Lamai Beach....You do get value for money BUT if it continues in its downwood spiral I dont know how long it will be around. My advice would be sack some of the complacent staff and hire a manager that is prepared to make sure all work is being done and for goodness sake hire some decent restaurant staff. I really want to come back here as I love the resort itself... but I think I will be relying on the reviews a bit closer to the time to see whether I do or not. Come on Marina Villa lift your game.

We had a great time at Marina Villa. Big but basic rooms with a nice balcony up among the top of the palm trees. Direct access to a very nice beach and 2 pools and a restaurant. We especially enjoyed the pool area with a view to the sea and our balcony. It's not fancy, but you get a lot for your money. We don't know how it is in high season, but in low season it was really relaxed.

The hotel is placed in a very quiet area. It's the best solution for families that want some relax. Lamai beach is one of the best beaches on the island: lovely sea and sand. There are many activities in the water to have fun . Rooms were clean, but small. Breakfast was not included, but you can get it at the restaurant of the hotel ( continental, thai...)

Rude man at reception, I ask if they have problem with WiFi. NO only you.... I check sites online. Many complain about the WiFi. I show him this. The answer. Why do you stay here if you dont like it... I will not I answer, and we left after one night. By the way, the pool is crap. Brocken bricks that cut your feets They only sell rooms because the beach is close Never again this hotel, until they understand hoo is paying the sellery
