Initially we liked this place when we arrived. But the rooms were full of mould. VERY noisy from animals. WiFi does not work because the router is far away in reception. We also didn’t receive back our deposit which was so disappointing, they decided to go on holiday the night before we checked out and after contacting them for the last 2 months through email the guy keeps saying he “can’t work out” how to transfer $20 on pay pal or transferwise or a simple bank transfer...Come on it’s 2018 and that is so easy! Very poor service. With all of this, I would pass on this place and get something much better and closer to the centre of Pai.

Having read the excellent reviews we were looking forward to staying here. Though when we arrived all was obviously not as reported... 'Reception' was a boarded up building site with a note on the door saying to come to Monkey House 2 to check in (2km away). Turns out that Monkey House 1 does not provide the reception, communal areas, kitchen, TV area etc. that it advertises. Merely glorified sheds in a rundown setting, a 1.8km walk from the centre of town, a long way considering how small Pai is... On booking.com it says that every room has aircon, towels, a mountain view... This is also incorrect. It's been left in a state of disrepair. We did have complementary ants running along the side of the mattress (but this is something to be expected, so no grudges there). Having raised all this with the Spanish man who eventually came to give us the keys to our shed he argued over and over again that you can't get aircon in Pai for the price we were paying - irrelevant when it was stated in the booking (along with the communal areas etc.). Eventually managed to get our money back without so much as an apology. Terrible customer service and terrible accommodation (and we've been in some pretty rough places round Myanmar...) All in all, steer clear.

I stayed here when I visited Pai in February and this is such a lovely place to stay! Its about a mile outside of Pai so it is very quiet and very relaxing. I had the room which was just off reception which was extremely spacious and had a nice little terrace as well. The staff and owner at Monkey House are very friendly and always had a big smile for you. There was also a big gang of puppies running around who were so cute! On my last day I asked the owner if I could get a taxi back to the bus station but he gave me a lift on his motorbike (suitcase as well!) to the bus station which was much appreciated! Pai itself is a beautiful place to visit. I enjoyed walking to the big Buddha statue just outside of the town which was a nice walk and you got some lovely views over Pai from there.

I have never felt more welcome! We had one of the bungalows and was perfect, also Raul the owner helped us a lot with everything we needed and one night he cooked a paella for all the guests. We loved Pai and we loved Monkey house.

We stayed there (3 people) for several nights. The rooms are comfy, big and clean. Although it’s a bit outside of the city, there is no problem to get right in the action because either you have a scooter or Raoul is driving you with his car (for free). In general he is a very nice guy and we loved to chat with him in the evening. The prices are cheap for what you get. An absolute recommendation!
