Acceptable place for unbeatable price, 260 baht for a room with bathroom/shower and fan. Very friendly staff and good location in Ranong, near markets, grocery, and tourism (Pon's Place). It is very basic but if that's your style its a good option. Be prepared to get up with the roosters they like to hang out on the roof nextdoor. Like the other reviews said the stairs are steep and it can seem a bit spooky but overall a solid place.

Another year goes by and I have just spent another night, whilst in transit from Koh Chang to Bangkok, at this very convenient and very cheap (260THB for a fan double with cold water shower and external window) budget hotel. The English speaking young Manager, Jo, is very helpful and the hotel is situated in Ranong's main street, close to several convenience stores and places to eat. You would not want to spend your holiday here but for a night or two in transit too/from Kho Pham/Koh Chang and plane or bus to Bangkok or over to Surat Thani, a great and very cheap place to stay. The Chinese run hotel is ideal for travellers who don't expect fancy service and amenities; this said, the value is near to unbeatable. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful, keen to please with all there is - but they aren't magicians, you got to get along with whatever's available. All of the rooms have their own attached bathroom, and are are fairly clean; every day roomcleaning service with fresh bedsheets, and free excellently working wifi make this place more than worthwhile. A little drawback: noise - sensitive people might need some earplugs, as the road at the front side can be quite loud even at night, and the roosters in the backyard aren't much better, kikerikeeing awayall night, starting 1 am. In all, this is a great place seen the price/value relation, and the helpful staff. English is spoken just basic, please be considerate with speaking speed and vocabulary ;-)

The Rattanasin Hotel in central Ranong Town, close to the day market, is a highly satisfactory place to stay for a night or two, whilst transiting too or from the islands of Kho Phayam or Kho Chang. It is definitely a "No Frills" joint but the rooms are very clean and the price pretty unbeatable at only 260 Baht (January 2015) for a spacious double room with a window, electric fan and an en suite shower room with cold water shower plus a W/C. The owners son "Jo" is often behind the ground floor reception and he speaks good English. The mattress's are good and firm and the sheets and towels immaculately clean and well pressed. There is also the great extra bonus of FREE WiFi, not only in the reception area but also with good strength in the bedrooms. The front door is locked at 10pm but you can gain re-entry after that by ringing a bell. There is a conveniently located "Seven 11" directly opposite and the backpacker favourite "Pons Place" restaurant and travel agency is less than a five minute stroll, in the same central street. There is also a "Tesco Local" in the same street (Ruengrat Road). To get to the hotel from the bus station, just out of town, take a BLUE coloured "Songtaw" - Number 6. This is a good and cheap option for a one to two night stay in Ranong Town. Happy travels, Andrew Bruce. Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
