Actually we would rate our stay with 4 stars, but all the negatives have to do with the location and the low season, and so because this is not the hotel's fault I will be fair and give it 5 stars.
We stayed in this hotel for 2 nighrs in July, which is low season. As a result, the resort was completely empty except the french caretaker/chef/gardener/receptionist, the owner's mother and a maid, who were btw very nice to us. The resort's friendly dog was our only company for most of our stay.
The bungalows are situated around a beautiful and well maintained garden. The room is large and clean and the bed is not too hard. There is a restaurant area with a nice view of the beach where we had our breakfast every morning.
This resort is ideal during low season if you want complete seclusion and privacy. The town of Chumphon is miles away and taxi rides to the town are very expensive. The resort's restaurant was closed (I think?) due to low season and there were no other restaurants around, so thank goodness we had brought our own food with us.
We had a very pleasant walk on the beach but it didn't look inviting enough to swim. Lots of crabs, birds and seashells. There was nobody around apart from a couple of fishermen. No idea how the beach looks like during high season.
The area around the resort is very beautiful, lots of trees, flowers etc but no facilities whatsoever.
Unfortunately wet season comes with lots of insects, especially flies which were everywhere.
Anyway, we did enjoy our stay and would definitely recommend Saphli Villa but only in high season or/and if you have your own transport ... except if you want to be left completely alone, in which case the low season would be ideal!
