I am impressed with this place!
It is THE place to stay. The hostel is lovely, clean and fresh. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely: a good size and nicely appointed with comfortable beds, and very clean bed-linen and towels. It seems more like a nice small hotel than a hostel, with little touches like nice bed-side lamps, very good lighting, a nice television with lots of choices of good channels (a real bonus for occasional early evenings in with the children). I loved the bathroom, clean and bright and with a wash basin at a very good height for my tall frame. The hostel is located directly across from Patong Beach down a small alley that is covered and lined with stalls selling clothes, trinkets and souvenirs. It could not have a better location! All around are convenient places to eat including the lovely food stalls fronting the beach. A great location and a great base from which to wander and explore and browse all the wonderful shopping opportunities. Coming from Koh Phi Phi I was not looking forward as much to Patong as I thought it would be too commercialised - and it is very commercialised - but the hotel and everything else made it a great stay and a great place to be - I would visit Patong again and Silla Patong Hotel would be at the top of the list for the place to stay. Oh, should just say, you do get noise from the nightly cabaret next door - until about 11 or 12 at night - but it is a party place and we all loved it - singing along to the music until we fell asleep :0)
