Travel within Thailand is somewhat haphazard at the moment due to Covid 19 restrictions. Hoteliers country wide are complaining about the lack of tourists, thus the lack of income.
My mate and I deviated from our normal Pattaya accommodation to try Sutus Court. We are not big spenders, using the room merely for sleep so for 400 THB a night we were not expecting the Savoy.
The check in was done professionally and the female staff were friendly. The rooms allocated on the second floor confirmed the tariff, being somewhat dated with no tea making facilities (though free boiling water is available from an urn adjacent to reception) and no room safe but clean and tidy. Though the towels, like myself had seen better times, grey rather than white. However the double bed was comfortable and provided a good night's sleep.
Unfortunately the bell boy rather than delivering the toilet roll (?), two small soaps (no shampoo) and two free bottles of water to the room presented them to us in a plastic bag for us to carry, together with our bags to the room. Customer service 0-1.
The hotel boasts a large swimming pool which was clean and well maintained, whilst opposite Reception is a bar restaurant where we spent some time. The staff are extremely friendly and make your visit enjoyable. Beer prices are reasonable, in fact excellent compared to adjacent venues, though they do not have a 'smoke free' zone.
Unfortunately after day 2 we had to remind the cleaning staff to replace the soap and free water. Customer service 0-2.
This was obviously a fine hotel in its day, with beautifully crafted timber facades and railings, which have unfortunately not been maintained. Though from the continual 'banging' 'drilling' and 'sanding' throughout the day some effort is being made to rejuvenate the place. Not the best for guests who might want a restful nap during the day. Customer service 0-3.
Overall Sutus Court though staid and at times lacking in personal attention by some staff, was fair value for money; 400 THB a night is never going to provide luxury.
I will possibly stay there again, remembering to take my own shampoo and kettle as there were more positives, like location, friendly, helpful staff than negatives. However greater effort on behalf of some staff could have further encouraged me to return,so a missed opportunity as I travel to Pattaya quite regularly.
