I arrived in Tahoe on a snowy, Friday night at 11pm to find that I was locked out of my friend's cabin, and couldn't reach her. I had my child with me and I was worried everywhere would be booked and we'd be left in a storm in our car. I called the Days Inn reservation line at about 11:30pm and they booked a room for me. A few minutes later, my friend called and I was able to get in the house. I called the reservation line immediately to ask if I could cancel- they said I had to call the hotel. I called the hotel, they said I had to call the reservation line. I called the reservation line again - they sent me back to the hotel. I called the hotel the next morning and they said, "sorry but you didn't give us the required 48-hours notice."
They took my money, even though I tried to cancel within minutes of booking. I asked to speak to the manager, so they gave me a generic email address to write to - email@example.com- but refused to give me the name of the manager (likely they receive multiple complaints). To no surprise, they never responded. I gave them 2 weeks to respond before writing this complaint.
I don't know about you, but I would much rather spend my money on a business that isn't just trying to suck you dry, with no humanity. I've worked for hotels in the past, and this is unacceptable. Spend your money elsewhere, where they actually care about their guests.
