Stayed here for 3 nights for a trip to Universal at the start of my kids Christmas break. I usually stay in the SH Suites Convention Center, but a friend has stayed here several times and highly recommended it. I figured I would try it out since it includes a shuttle, and my last Uber trip from the park to SH Suites cost me $25.
TGI Friday's on site. I planned on walking up the street to the Ale House (much cheaper) but it was chilly out and I didn't feel like it. I was very happy with the food and service at TGI F, and my daughter and I were able to split an entree which helped keep the cost down. And only $5 for a large beer, around 24 oz I believe.
Keurig in room
Universal shuttle - but only runs 3 times in morning and 3 times in evening. First morning shuttle at 7:10 is perfect for 8:00am park opening. I asked at the front desk if there would be any shuttles later than the 8:00pm posted last shuttle since the parks would be open until 10pm the nights I was there. They said no. I asked another worker in the morning, and he said he didn't think so, but he had only been there for a month. I was talking to a guy on the shuttle at one of the other hotels it picks up from, and he said there was ones at 9:50pm and 11pm. We arrived at the shuttle pickup at 9:45 and watched the bus leave without us. Must have been 9:40 or 9:45pm. But no one at the Holiday Inn seemed to know anything about later pickups. I asked a 3rd person on the 2nd morning who also didn't know.
Beds - comfy, plenty of good quality pillows, comfortor/blanket very soft and snuggly. I slept the same as I do at home.
Clean - everything was clean, even the in-room chairs. They looked brand new, no stains or worn out areas. All staff were wearing facial coverings.
Shower pressure good. Rooms large.
fuse blew in bathroom on 1st morning while I was blow drying my hair. I had to move my blow dryer to the table so I had a mirror and light. The outlet on the other side of that wall is for the micro and fridge, which now also did not work, and the carton of milk I had in there ended up going bad. I went down to front desk to tell them about it (it was around 6am), and I was told they would put in a maintenance call when they get there at 7am. A security guard happened to be standing there at the time, and he offered to come up to the room to at least get the fridge running. He thought he did, but when we came back from the park it was not. Everything inside was warm. I told the front desk again (it was now 10pm) and they said they would have someone call the room and look into it immediately. That never happened either.
Lighting - rooms very dark even with all the lights on.
Hallway on first floor from side entrance going to elevator seemed dingy, and there was a hole in the ceiling. They are undergoing renovations right now, so maybe that will be addressed.
Wall outlets - Only a few outlets for plugging in phones and other devices. There is a plug in the lamp that is on the table/desk, but it stopped working at some point and my laptop died. There are only 2 other outlets, and they are in the lamp on the nightstand. There were 3 of us in the room and that was not enough. They also did not charge very well. Phones were not fully charged when we woke up.
Bathroom vanity too small. Not a lot of space for 3 females to put their stuff.
I most likely will not stay here again. There are too many other options nearby to better suit my needs. The $17 daily parking fee did not seem worth it for the shuttle, which was the main reason we stayed here.
