Our stay started poorly and didn’t get better. Four of us traveled to Rhode Island for a memorial. We’re all first responders. We walked into the reception to check in and were the only ones in the lobby. We were not greeted with a “hello” but rather a “where are you from” demanding to see our negative Covid tests. We explained that we weren’t aware we’d need these, had not been asked for them the previous day staying in Rhode Island. As we’d been vaccinated and could show proof, the receptionist let us stay. We investigated RI.gov afterwards and noted that our state was not on the list; further we met two exceptions. We confronted the receptionist and he stated he did not know our state wasn’t on the list of “high risk” as the previous shift hadn’t printed one. He did have computer access and was able to find the information while we were there. Further, we explained that we met two different exemptions. That evening, I noted the fire alarm panel was in “trouble”. Told the receptionist and he was incredibly dismissive. That night, my husband and I noted the thermostat in our room wasn’t working but the base heater was putting out significant heat despite being down at 58 degrees. My husband and I opened the window (outdoor temp 17 degrees) and were still overly warm. Made sleeping difficult to say the least. The next day, our friends found pubic hair on the washcloths as they were getting ready to use them. We confronted the manager with our concerns. He said he wasn’t the normal manager and would have the regular one contact us the next day. Now, a week later, we haven’t heard anything. Frustrated with the experience. Unfriendly, unclean, never go back there!

The visit was less than par, 1/2 star if I was able to rate as low. My lady and I, along with two friends, checked in on 2/7; two rooms staying for 1 night. When we arrived, we were greeted (sort of) by the front desk attendant (Callium was his name I believe). Instead of a welcoming greeting, he immediately questioned where were from, then shifted to a defensive posture; telling us that he needs to see a negative Covid test before he could give us a room. He stated he needed the negative test because we were from a "high risk" state. When we told him MD was not on Rhode Island's "high risk" list, he showed us an outdated list (which MD was still not on), and allowed us to register only after we showed him vaccination cards. After registering, we went to our two separate rooms, and I researched Rhode Island's covid regulations again. We went back downstairs to school the attendant once more, confirming we don't need negative tests...now for multiple reasons... 1 - We are not from a "high risk" state 2 - We were public safety personnel and are exempt 3 - We were there for a memorial, making us exempt ...this attendant apologized but didn't seem to care that we called him out... The next morning, while my lady was in the shower, she noticed pubic hair on her wash cloth...not ours. This was nasty, especially since she already bathed. When we spoke with our friend's about the less-than par cleaning services, they told us that their heat in their room was at max all night, and they could not lower the temperature...they needed to open a window to try to sleep and stay comfortable. My friend also said she noticed the fire alarm was in "Trouble Mode"...them being firefighters, they know there is a problem, that it is unsafe, and the sprinklers might not work. She told the staff, but they seemed not to care. I went to speak with a supervisor at the front desk the next morning...was told that they would have the manager and/or director of the hotel call me to discuss the concerns...THEY DIDNT HAVE THE NERVE TO EVEN CALL ME BACK. Not cool...not cool at all... 1/2 Star review, and I would love to talk to the hotel manager, if they decide to call...

Stayed the weekend of 2/5-2/7. The hotel was perfect and the staff was amazing! Cheyenne, Emily, Caellum and Katelyn at the front desk staff deserves more than 5 stars! The best place to stay visiting Newport!

Overall the suite was very nice. The jacuzzi tub was great and the bed was comfortable. We made breakfast in the room and had everything we needed except a kitchen towel. Paper towels would be a nice addition. However, the pool which when we called was told was heated, was not! The heater come to find out has been on it's way out and hasn't been fixed. If you are looking forward to a heated pool, I'd ask if it's been fixed before going because it is freezing. The hot tub in the pool area had not been cleaned while we were there and had garbage floating in it. We did use the rooftop hot tub as it was much nicer than the one in the pool room. Neighbors in room next to us were loud and ignorant and I had to complain at 1:45am. I would consider returning but did leave feeling disappointed.

First off, I am shocked that this hotel only has a ranking of 3 1/2 on Trip Advisor. Shocked. We had a 2 bedroom king suite that was clean, in a perfect location to the beach and Cliff Walk, and enough space for a family of 4 or more. The bedrooms are on each side of the suite with the living room and kitchen in the middle. Each bedroom has an attached full bathroom and TV. The living room has another TV and pull out sofa. There are sliding doors in each room that open up to a Juliet balcony which I had never seen before. Our view was in the back of the building overlooking the pond- you get a great sunrise on that side of the building. Once we got settled needed, we realized we needed paper towels and some more glasses. They were brought up to us within 10 minutes! I felt like the staff was attentive, friendly and made sure we felt welcome. I can't imagine what it must be like in the summer, but coming off season was perfect! 5 stars!
