We came for a college visit and *thought* I booked in the same hotel we stayed in previously (which was great). Unfortunately, instead of booking into the COMFORT INN near WCU, I booked into this Quality Inn. It was too late to cancel, and the Comfort Inn was already fully booked anyway, so we were stuck.
Upon entering the hotel, you’re immediately hit with the smell of cigarette smoke. This may be a smoking/non-smoking hotel by floors, but for a non-smoker, the smell permeated throughout the entire building, even into our room.
Check-in was easy enough. The room was quite dated and the carpet was in complete disrepair. Near the door the carpet was shredded, and in the center of the room is a large area where the carpet is missing (see photo). Ironically, the bedding in our “non-smoking” room had a cigarette burn (see photo).
The wi-fi was very weak and we eventually gave up and disconnected and used our own service. The walls are quite thin and we heard doors shutting most of the night.
Breakfast was on par with the rest of our stay- we were there for 10 minutes and the scrambled eggs and biscuit tray were empty the whole time. I had to ask for the coffee urns to be refilled. The cereal dispenser was very light-weight, cheap plastic, and moved all over the counter when I tried to turn it to get cereal. The danishes were very stale. As you can guess, we gave up and stopped for breakfast on our way to the college.
I will never make the mistake of booking at this hotel again. I should have realized by the much lower rates as compared to what the other hotels were charging that something was wrong.
