Great family hotel! The room size was nice and spacious. The free breakfast definitely helps save money for those that are budget conscious as they travel. Location was excellent just a couple miles down from Newport wharf. Great place to stay close to Newport without having to pay the outrageous prices near the wharf.

We stayed at the Middleton Residence Inn for three nights while exploring the Newport area. Our two bedroom/two bath suite was super clean, spacious, and comfortable. But lets face it: Chain hotels in this class are generally cookie-cutter properties with little to distinguish one from the other. What makes this Residence Inn different is the attentive staff that lifts the Hotel to a higher level. Everyone we encountered (front desk, breakfast bar, and maintenance) was friendly, professional, helpful, and genuinely interested in improving the quality of our stay. They were all excellent. The only negative is the Hotel's location, which is clustered with several other chain hotels of the same class about 2.5 miles from Bowen's Wharf in downtown Newport. Although there is a shuttle bus ($5 each way) that runs from and to the hotel every 30 minutes on the weekends, the trip can take 30+ minutes depending upon the time of day and traffic. (That's still better than trying to find the ever-elusive parking space near the Wharf.) Other than the Applebee's at the end of the Hotel parking lot and Coddington's Brew Pub .5 miles away, there are no dining or entertainment options of note within walking distance of the Hotel. Despite this negative, we would definitely stay there again given the reasonable price, comfort, and most importantly, and high level of service.

My wife and I recently checked in for a 5 day stay. We unpacked , had dinner and settled in for the night. We noticed that the television was almost unwatchable. My wife contacted the front desk and the person on duty told us she'd refer it to the engineer. We did the Cliff Walk the next day and when we returned to the hotel , that same person told us the engineer's response was that the part of the building our room was in has always had cable problems and that nothing could be done. She offered to move our room but that wasn't acceptable. We made our reservations in May and yet we still ended in a room with faulty services. A little while later , a young man named Isaiah came up to see what he could do. He spent quite a bit of time and was ultimately successful. We thanked him for his efforts and stopped at the desk the next morning to talk to the manager. She was appalled at the unnamed engineer's response to the situation. She was very apologetic and insisted that never should have happened. She did arrange some compensation for us as well. The Residence Inn is nicely set up with an easy back door access to the Mansions and other Newport attractions but the quality of the staff at a Marriott property is more important to a successful visit. We are fortunate enough to be able to travel quite a bit and stay with the Marriott family whenever possible. We understand that sometimes things can happen but the measure of a property is how the staff responds. To us , Isaiah went above and beyond to correct the situation as did the manager. I wish I had gotten her name but she did everything right and certainly turned around our early feelings about the Residence Inn Newport. We also appreciated the COVID protocol and the other members of the staff we interacted with. Thank You, Paige and Steve

There was a time when it wouldn’t be entirely out of the question for anyone reading this to say that there’s been up to a 90% culling in available rooms with points or rewards. Unfortunately this change has taken immediate effect, so for the foreseeable future, all Marriott Bonvoy brands will be bound by less consumer friendly terms than before. If you have a hotel you’ve been eyeing up, it’s definitely worth getting that booking. For those who are math or calendar challenged, January 2015 happened more than four years ago. That’s an eternity in this space. And I was stunned to discover that the findings are still completely valid today. There used to be a program that rewarded a stay at Marriott with free nights based on the number of stays accumulated. All this is gone along with anything accumulated, like with pensions, everything is cash only. There once was an incentive to stay at a Marriott, this is now over and it would be wise to choose based on the best rate and accommodations, something the Marriott can no longer promise.

My son and I stayed in a two-bedroom two full bath suite which was very spacious. The hotel itself was not far from the tourist spots in Newport. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. But three stars because of the noisy central AC system that kept me up during the night. Also, and unlike the thermostat in the Marriott Fairfield Inn in Uncasville CT, this thermostat was both quirky and poorly operating. I would press LO for the fan speed to try to keep the room more comfortable with constant air flow. But after switching the display from the set temperature to displaying the room temp, it would switch back to AUTO for the speed, which ultimately led to a three-degree difference between the two temperatures. The room temp was always warmer, and besides the noise, helped to keep me up while I was attempting to sleep.
