I'm so frustrated, please excuse if I start rambling.
My profile: 50 year professional, married, child, live in single family community in Maryland suburb 15 minutes from DC. When on vacay, my preferred hotels are Loews', W Hotels, Hyatts, Hiltons, Marriotts, Westin's and Wyndhams. When impressing the wife for anniversary etc., we'll splurge for Ritz, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Mandarin, etc. When traveling on business, I'll do Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, Hyatt House, Courtyard Marriott, etc. Nothing fancy. As long as it's clean, has a coffee maker and wifi, I'm good.
BUT THIS SHERATON LAKE BUENA VISTA is a JOKE!
This is a motel..not a hotel. Entry doors enter from the outside like a motel. Had no idea that the crime rate of Lake Buena Vista had a D+ crime rate. And the businesses around it reflect it. Super sketchy
Hotel rooms are EXTREMELY dated and run down. Old dirty elevators with no ventilation and buzzing fluorescent light fixtures. Dust and grime everywhere in the cracks and crevices of the AC Vents, sprinkler heads, smoke detectors, bottom of light fixtures, behind and under the furniture. Uggh. Sheets and bed lines have gone WAY past their life cycle. Room smelled old and moldy. The balcony railings are rusted with the bolts coming loose...paint was peeling badly. Balcony furniture was ripped and stained. Good luck trying to close the balcony sliding door smoothly..probably due to the amount of rust, dirt and grime located in the sliding door track.
The advertised arcade game room in the lobby is closed. No downstairs restaurant services during the day...you have to eat outside at the pool. The marketplace store is a joke..no real retail offerings..just old ice cream in a badly frosted freezer, 2 snicker bars, some chips, and liquor...IN THE ENTIRE STORE. My wife located another food fridge that had sandwiches for sale, but said they were 4 days past the expiration date.
The ONLY reason I gave this hotel a chance after checking in was because the pool area was quite active with kids and my 15 year old son was begging me to swim since being deprived of fun due to quarantining from covid all last year.
We were supposed to stay 7 nights but left after 1 night and demanded my money back after I turned on the shower and a 4-inch roach crawled out from the shower fixture and it ran at full speed out of the bathroom and into the bedroom where my wife was asleep in bed. I literally picked her up in her sleep, tossed her into the sofa near the TV...yanked all of the bed linen off the bed and threw it at the roach in order to smother it in order to buy us some time to pack and get the HECK out of the room.
In the next room I jolted my son out of his sleep and told him, "GET UP NOW! PACK EVERYTHING! DON'T ASK ANY QUESTIONS! YOU HAVE 90 SECONDS TO EVACUATE THIS ROOM!
In our night clothes, we sat in the lobby between 11:45pm and 12:40am calling around Orlando and searching online for a place to stay since everything was booked up. We finally found the J.W. Marriott Grand Lakes and it was like walking into heaven.
But the Sheraton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Resort is a dump and the pictures are misleading. It's a shame because the staff there are very nice. But the facility is a DUMP. You're better off sleeping in your car.
