This should be in a category titled "as expected." Silver Legacy was once a fine place to play video poker. There are still some good games, but the stench of Caesar's is now present. Comps are totally slashed. I played for 6 hours several times and received a whopping $3-$4 in comps. No, that's not a misprint, $3-$4! At Atlantis, on REGULAR days, I could expect $12-$20 for this much play, and Atlantis's games are just as good. On 2x and 5x comp days, I get $40-$70 at Atlantis. Its a no-brainer. In addition to giving the Silver Legacy as much play as Atlantis, I've yet to receive room offers like I get with Atlantis. I get the sense that "screw the players" is going to become the modus operandi of "The Row" just like it is in the midwest where I've lived the last 12 years and how Harrah's Reno operated. Looks like Silver Legacy will go the same route as Harrah's Reno. We all know how that worked out.
I must confess, I believe the Harrah's in Council Bluffs is blatantly cheating. I can't prove it fully, but over 10 years of play have compiled the following statistics: Flush draws to 4 cards, 1 in 8 (should be 1 in 5). Full house draws to 2 pair, 1 in 17 (should be 1 in 12). Royal flush draws, 1 in 105,000 (should be 1 in 40,000 to 50,000). Four of a kind draws were about 1 in 400-500 up to about 5 years ago, which is correct. However, after that time, they have declined to about 1 in 950. A note to naysayers: these are records compiled over hundreds of trips, not just a week, month or year. Whenever I return to Nevada, the averages are exactly as they should be. I'm convinced this is due to Nevada's much stricter standards and punishment for those who jigger or gaffe games. Iowa's gaming control board is literally housed at Harrah's Council Bluffs! That ought to tell you something. I have only one piece of advice for players in Council Bluffs Caesar's properties: STOP, you are being cheated.
There are still good games and hosts at Silver Legacy and El Dorado, so I occasionally go back. However, I would be cautious. Watch for chops in comps and paytables. Also, be careful--the feral people who inhabit 4th and Virginia are often hanging about doing drugs and mayhem. Not good, and the staff doesn't seem to be able to get rid of them.
