The Chanler is a once in a lifetime experience. Luxurious and cozy room, a pristine outdoor hot tub in our private courtyard, a mansion that is a work of art, a breathtaking water view, and a world class location at the start of Newport's Cliff Walk. The entire staff and management went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. I don't understand anyone who could rationally post less than a 5 star review.

The Chanler knows how to do it right. Beautiful property both inside and out. We enjoyed the ease of walking to the beach (they provide beach chairs), walking on the Cliff walk, and riding the bicycles provided around town. We ate dinner at Cava. The quality of the food and the service was good but the menu is limited and the chef was inflexible.

Due to Covid restrictions, I rescheduled this four night visit three times. It was carefully detailed with Erin. We went over rooms, things I would need due to hearing disability, massage schedule, dinner reservations and so on. I booked the Block Island Room which turned out literally to be a dump. I have stayed at a Motel 6 that was cleaner and much more comfortable. I am a seasoned traveler, logging about 2 million air miles which means a lot of hotels in my career. This was to be a much needed get away. There was serious dust and cob webs on the overhead fan, loose electrical sockets behind tables, furniture - difficult to get to. Only three and poorly located for actual use. Filthy bathroom floor. Very tiny room. Jacuzzi did not work. No room for clothes to be put away and no room for suitcases to be accessed easily. Specifically asked Erin to be away from screaming child as I have an ear disability and the pitch of a screaming kid is awful for me but I was seated next to screaming child. I went up politely to the father and asked if they could keep their kid from screaming. Father not cooperative. The food is OK but not great. The drapery disconnected from rail so sun at 5:30 am. Air conditioning konked out - operated by remote control. If did work, would blow right on you uncomfortably in bed. The manager Shoana and the general manager were surly, rude, and uppity, not to mention down right mean. They wanted me to leave. This is what is called blaming the victim. So, my lawyer will pursue Chanler. STAY AWAY. Two wicked witches sadly comes to mind when I think of the management I dealt with. $1k/night. Stay at a Four Seasons. Never been disappointed at Four Seasons or equivalent 6* or 7* hotel. This place had a year to clean up and get things perfect in this room. Other items: badly discolored rug and flooring damaged, ripped drape off runner so sun beat in at 5:30 am. And imagine having maintenance come in to make repairs while having a massage outside because no room inside. Imagine having much needed jacuzzi just stop working after experiencing minimal power from jets. Imagine spending $1k+/night and being treated rudely and blamed for being a victim of the hotel's poor management. RUN! Mean management. These managers are cruel and insolent people. Lastly, one is greeted by a melancholy picture of a large family. I suppose this sums up the room.

Our travel plans to Hawaii completely fell through, and my husband and I got lucky in finding a few days available at The Chanler, which was an absolute dream. Incredibly inspiring, wonderfully located, with attentive service that elevated our trip to something otherworldly. Thank you to Jimmy for being so wonderfully helpful in arranging fun, personalized activities and reservations for us. The location and views are unbeatable, and the food at Cara was exquisite and on par with the experiences we've had at Michelin restaurants around the world. A joy. We can't wait to return.

I thought that a place like The Chanler only existed in the movies. I never thought that I would have an experience like this. The food was unbelievably amazing, the room and the view were magical, and the staff was incredible.
