We left Edensee resort early after only one night. The bed is hard as a board, we had difficulties finding some sleep. We asked the reception for extra blankets for our mattress, but they didn’t help much. (Asian people may prefer hard beds, but it’s sheer horror for an European back.) Besides, these blankets showed stains of all kinds under the white washed sheets which covered them.
The living room area of our „suite“ felt empty. Some furniture was placed at the walls, but no comfortable couches or tables, no rugs, etc.
Moreover, the service in the restaurant is pretty poor. Staff seemed clueless and helpless from the beginning, they served our food after a long waiting time in the wrong order and forgot parts of our order.
At breakfast time, the restaurant becomes very noisy. Luckily, we got a table outside on the terrace. They charged us for our cappuccino, without telling us in advance that breakfast only includes simple coffee. This is the first I saw a so called five star hotel charging its guests for cappuccinos for breakfast.
There is no real hiking trail in or around the resort, but you can walk for a 15 minutes around the hotel alongside the lake. There is an animal enclosure hosting peacocks and deer. But no other animals. It can be visited only once a day in the morning.
Concerning the overall style: This resort clearly serves to Asien clients with a strong penchant for kitsch and pomposity. Quality seems to be less important.
The scenery of this lake is beautiful and absolutely worth a visit. But it won’t be necessary to stay overnight in this remote area.
