Unfortunately this hotel experience was a catastrophy in my opinion. Key Points: Freezing Cold, Dirty, useless breakfast, incompetent staff and a dirty bed that had been slept in before. In detail: * Freezing Cold at night due to insufficient heating. It was 0°C outside and not much more in the room due to terrible insulation. We had complained to the staff. A Girl came and spent about 30 minutes playing with the remote of the AC which was supposed to also heat the room, while sitting on our bed. Eventually a little bit of hot air was coming and the girl left. Soon after the AC stopped heating again. We asked to change rooms. The Girl came another 20 minutes of playing with the remote but once again no result. The Girl had brought a nother room key, but did not give us another room. She explained, all rooms are the same. No heating. Eventually she brought us some electronic heating blankets which were increadably musty and nasty the whole room smelled of mould after these blankets were installed. Also they hardly worked and there were sparks coming from the plug socket. Very unsafe. We were still cold and especially our heads were freezing all night. The next morning we walked past one of the other guests rooms. One could instantly tell, that room was cosy and warm. Had the girl lied to us about all the heaters being the same, because she didn't want to give us another room? When we complained about the cold we could tell, only a few rooms were occupied. A whole range of available room keys were hanging at the reception desk. Perhaps the rooms had not been prepared and the girl did not want to prepare another room for us that evening. Very unpleasant experience. * When we arrived we received a free upgrade we were initially very happy, however, we soon noticed one of the two beds looked and smelled like it had been slept in before. One bed had ironed sheets the other bed was all creased and had black hairs in it. It had not been made. *The Room had many things in disrepair and was generally not very clean. The Bathroom had black hairs all over. The towels had brown stains.the Shower door was broken, the frame of the bathroom mirror was missing one entire side. *The breakfast room was also freezing cold. Also breakfast only caters to Asian guests. Hardly any western foods for breakfast. Not even toast. In my opinion a bad selection. * When checking out we asked for a discount seeing we had such a bad experience. We got no apology only a " you already get upgrade" seriously? An upgrade to a room with no heating and a bed that had previously been slept in? Wow what a cheek. Total disappointment worst Hotel on our 3 Month journey through Southeast Asia. Do not come here.

We stayed there for 3 nights. The hotel arranged us everything - taxis, tickets to CatBa, recommended restaurants and shops. The view from the window in our room was fantastic! The most touching thing was when we were waiting for a bus to Sapa at the lobby. Our receptionist came to see us off and make sure we were fine late in the evening. Very kind of her! It was a little bit noisy because of the consruction nearby, but that's ok.

We stayed at this Nice hotel for 3 nights and felt very comfortable. When we arrived, we wanted to upgrade our room, because there was no view. The receptionist was very nice and offeret us a nice room with a view to the same price. We were very happy about this service. The breakfast is very nice with a lot of smiling people around. In general the staff is kind and very smiling. That made us feel happy as well. Nice hotel and really value for money. 😀 Best Ulla and Jakob from Denmark

1. Location- very close to the Lake for a good morning/afternoon run but somehow tucked away from the hustle of the city center some 10to 15mins by foot. On a clear day, it has an AMAZING view of the mountain range and the lake. Rooms 405, 406, 407 should have the best views. 2. Value for money- amenities you expect are provided including fridge and hair dryer (well, I think female travelers appreciate having one in the room). 3. STAFF! They are the true Gems of Gem Sapa Hotel. Lua, you are amazing! I have no words to describe you. You are not just a hotel personnel, you are a friend, a family. Our little tete-a-tete over breakfast and you serenading me with your impeccable piano skills (wink wink) before I left just did it for me!!! Oh, and also the main breakfast lady. Seeing her smiling pleasant face as she asks if you need anything else sends a vibe that it will be a great day... And Vinh... Message me your travel plans and I'd help you out. It pains me that the 6nights-vacation is over. It just flew by so fast as I had so much fun in spite of the very foggy, misty and muddy first three days. Anyway, I'll be back. That's for sure!

SAPA is like a dreamland to me. i have to admit the scary uphill climb in the bus. every minute you feel like about to end up in the valley. when you finally reach SAPA, the first thing you enjoy is the cool air on top. amazing lake view, and i was like " this is the life i want" walking to the hotel take sometime, but it is worth it because the temperature is low. try the amazing lemon grass apple tea they prepare for guest in lobby. they taste amazing and i took the opportunity to ask from the chef how to prepare it. the hotel prepare heater mattress for the room as it is freezing cold at night. breakfast is amazing with lots of choice. and the hotel staff can chat with you, tell you every story about sapa and how people from Hanoi came to enjoy the cool temperature.
