Lodge At the Ancient City

We were a self-guided group of five and based here for two nights to tour Great Zimbabwe, visit surrounding villages and see Lake Kyle. The stay was excellent -- staff were helpful and friendly. The architecture alone makes it worth a visit. Rooms were very clean and very spacious, and the food and drink were good and reasonably priced. Like much of Zimbabwe these days (early 2020), there is only electricity in the grid in the evenings, so the hotel is on generator power at other times. There are some points during the day when there is no power in the rooms, but we were out at those times so didn't really notice. Two Zimbabwe residents in our party had been to the Lodge before and said that it has definitely upped its game in the restaurant since their last visit a year or so ago.

During our (me and my wife, the only guests) 3 nights/day stay at Ancient City Lodge there were at THE SAME TIME 2 conferences (ca. 17 persons each), one in de diningroom and one in the lounge. Both situated in a open space, from 9.00 till 16.00 hrs, and both with loud presentations and discussions! No way to escape for us, except to our room, but there was no electricity (......) no light and no coffeemaking facility. Even on the 3e day, when we came for breakfast at nine, breakfast was gone (to noisy for the conference). The dinner at night was awful, 3 days the same. The room was nice, but no electricity for hours. NO WAY, I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

Really great and unique setting, the rooms are very roomy and very clean. Staff extremely helpful and customer oriented. Decent meals too had dinner and breakfast in the dining room. Right next door to Great Zimbabwe but also feels like part of it due to the architecture. A fantastic place to holiday with the family and take friends especially from outside Zimbabwe. Can be cold though so take warm clothing

We based ourselves here for several days while on a small group tour. What a treasure this hotel is! Built right into the natural stone landscape and overlooking Great Zimbabwe across the valley, the rooms are individual rondavel huts beautifully appointed, very comfortable bed, with ensuite bath and shower room. It wasn't sunbathing or pool weather but the facilities were excellent. Hotel staff went the extra mile to cater to our every need, whether for meals or with our accommodations. Chimms, the manager, pullled out all the stops to find a way to send my favourite dress on to London which I'd inadvertently left behind. Thank you Chimms!! I look forward to a return visit here with my family.

Close to the Great Zimbabwe we found this marvellous state lodge in built of the African granite Outcrop surrounded by great msasa trees. Unique accommodation,view point, great lounge and restaurant. It was just like coming to the Great Zimbabwe itself. If we have given friends Picture from the inside of the lodge and told them this was Great Zimbabwe, they would have believed us. We had a half bord stay, which made it reasonable when it comes to price. And a very pleasant crew helped us. The room (cottage) could easily host a Family and had all what we wanted. Next time when we bring guest for the ruins, this is the Place we will stay.
