Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
General Requirements
Netherlands has lifted its COVID-19 travel requirements for all travelers, regardless of vaccination status. The government made this decision on March 23, 2023, following a significant decline in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. They believes that the country is now in a position to safely lift these restrictions.
However, the general requirements at AMS Airport in 2023 are as follows:
- All passengers must have a valid passport and visa, if required.
- Passengers must check-in their luggage at least 2 hours before their flight departure time.
- Passengers must go through security screening before boarding their flight.
- Passengers must arrive at their gate at least 30 minutes before their flight departure time.
- Passengers must wear a face mask in all public areas of the airport.
- Passengers must follow the instructions of airport staff.
In addition to these general requirements, there are also some specific requirements for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility (PRM). These passengers may need to request assistance from the airport staff. To do this, they can contact the airport's Passenger Service Centre (PSC) at least 48 hours before their flight. The PSC can provide assistance with check-in, security screening, and boarding. They can also provide wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
The PRM levy is a charge that all passengers are required to pay to finance the assistance provided to passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility. The amount of the levy depends on the passenger's fare class. For example, passengers in economy class pay €8, while passengers in business class pay €12. The PRM levy is not refundable.
Transfers Requirements
When passengers transfer on a connecting flight to a non-Schengen or non-EU location and remain in the transfer area at Schiphol for up to 48 hours, it is important for them to possess a valid flight ticket and appropriate travel documents. This will enable them to provide evidence of their transit status. However, if passengers switch to a connecting flight bound for a Schengen country or an EU destination, they will be subject to the entry policy implemented by the Dutch authorities. To know more about transiting in jthe netherlands requirements, please check the Government of the Netherlands website.
How long?
It all depends on the passengers' arrival time at Schiphol and the departure time of their connecting flight. Personal advice can be provided based on the passengers' flight details. They can search for their arriving flight and click on flight details to obtain more information. By comparing this information with the departure details of their connecting flight, passengers can determine the amount of time they have for their transfer and identify the gate they need to proceed to.
Does transit passengers need transit visa?
Whether or not passengers require a visa depends primarily on their nationality, destination, and duration of their stay. The Schengen Visa Advisor assists passengers in determining whether they need a visa and the specific type of visa required for their travel arrangements to or through the Netherlands.
