Melbourne Airport
General Requirements
As of July 7, 2023, Melbourne International Airport (MEL) does not impose any COVID-19 related requirements. Passengers are not required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result or proof of vaccination when accessing the airport or embarking on a flight to Melbourne. Nonetheless, passengers are advised to adhere to the recommended guidelines, such as wearing masks in public spaces and maintaining social distance.
Here are some other COVID-19 related requirements for travelers to Melbourne:
- All passengers must complete an online health declaration form before arrival.
- All passengers must download and activate the Service Victoria app on their phone. This app monitors their movements and health condition, and is necessary for accessing specific venues in Melbourne, including restaurants and gyms.
- Passengers from certain countries may be subject to additional requirements, such as quarantine. Please check the latest requirements on the Victorian Government website.
Transit Requirements
- Passport: Passengers must have a valid passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of their transit.
- Visa: If a visa is required for transit through the Australia, passengers must have it with them upon arrival at the airport. Passengers may apply for a transit visa online or at the Melbourne International Airport visa application center.
- Airline ticket: Passengers are required to possess a confirmed airline ticket for their subsequent flight.
- Health declaration form: Passengers are required to fill out an online health declaration form prior to their arrival.
- Service Victoria app: Passengers are required to download and activate the Service Victoria app on their phones. This app monitors their movements and health condition and is necessary for accessing specific establishments in Melbourne, such as restaurants and gyms.
Limit hours:
The transit time limit for passengers transiting through Melbourne International Airport (MEL) is 24 hours. This means that passengers cannot stay in the transit area for more than 24 hours without leaving the airport. If their transit time exceeds 24 hours, they will be required to obtain a transit visa.
Here are some exceptions to the 24-hour transit time limit:
- Children under the age of 18 who are traveling alone are allowed to transit for up to 48 hours without a transit visa.
- Passengers who are transiting through Melbourne on a connecting flight operated by the same airline are allowed to transit for up to 48 hours without a transit visa.
- Passengers who are transiting through Melbourne on a connecting flight operated by different airlines are allowed to transit for up to 72 hours without a transit visa.
