Could not have asked for a better night's stay for the price. Absolutely fantastic value. Mark contacted me in advance about our stay and I felt completely at ease. We had a lovely large room with comfy beds and even TV, selection of films, chairs and tablesz tea and coffee, everything we'd need for a night in should that be what we wanted. Location is perfect, right over the road from Morrisons and walking distance to the town centre. Had a great night's sleep and would definitely book again. Thanks Mark!

It was very pleasant 3 days stay. Mark, the host, is a very friendly and welcoming person. The house itself is average, but clean and has everything you need, including kitchen. Morrisons big supermarket in 5 min walk distance, 10 min walk to city centre. 40 min drive to the centre of Lake District - Windemere Lake and all attractions. Thanks to Mark, we felt ourselves like we were at home. We'll definitely stay there again when we'll go to Lake District next time. Oleg, Valentina and Alex.

The Phoenix is well located for all the main features of Barrow. It is basic but, as the price reflects that, decent value for money. Only downside was having to go through a Sitting Room/Kitchen to get to the loo or shower. Guys who run it are ok, friendly, so all good there.

I chose the cheapest accommodation in Barrow, so I didn’t expect very much so I wasn’t shocked or disappointed. The room was shabby, but not obviously dirty although the bin hadn’t been emptied and I even found a previous guest’s dirty plates in a drawer. There was a microwave and fridge, but no kettle, cups or anything - although I later (next morning) learned that a fully equipped kitchen was available. This wasn’t explained when I arrived - only when I went searching for breakfast in the morning. The bathroom was spacious and the bath large. The bed was OK but the duvet and pillows were excellent so I slept really well. The policy of charging per occupant rather than for the room seems ridiculous - especially considering the breakfast is DIY budget cereals and toast. However, it wasn’t an issue as I was staying alone and although I would consider staying there again, I wouldn’t dare take my wife 😀

Stair carpet could be doing with a hoover No mirror in the bathroom makes it hard to shave plus you have to walk through the sitting room and kitchen for a shower apart from that it was ok

On thepositive side this property is cheap and fairly central. On the negative side my ensuite bathroom was in dire need of redecorating as paint was flaking off the woodwork and there were cracks un thewalls and ceiling..The free toiletries appeared to be what previous guests had left behind going back who knows how long. Unlike the photo in the gallery there was no hand towel in the bathroom, just one bathtowel on the bed. There was no kettle in the room and not a cup or glass in either the room or bathroom. The room itself appeared clean enough but there was a hole in the wall beside the door frame in which you could see the brickwork Downstairs the only communal area I found was the kitchen and adjoining bathroom. Although the kitchen was well enough stocked with plates, crockery etc.it seemed neglected and in need of a good clean.( this includes the inside of the fridge) The top of the table also felt tacky and the same grubby looking dish towel was sat there on all three mornings I ate breakfast there. Again, the 'delicious ' breakfast shown in the gallery wasn't my experience.: there was cereal, milk, bread, jam and a half bar of spread. There were also some oranges in the fridge. Beside the kitchen sink, on top of a washing machine and tumble dryer was a never decreasing pile of laundryThe view through the kitchen window was of piles of rubbish which in the event of a fire might well have blocked the fire exit. As for welcoming staff, I never met any.

The surrounding area was quite rundown although it wasn’t far to walk to shops, pubs and restaurants. The property was in poor condition. There was an overall stale, sweaty smell and the farpets were grubby. I was shocked and the dusty, crummy condition of my room. I wasn’t sure if the bed linen would be clean so I slept clothed on top. There was no kettle and although there was a huge telly it was difficult to see from any of the bunk beds due to their position. A shared bathroom and toilets which was down a flight of stairs was also inconvenient.

My stay was so terrible, there was no hot water , there was no heating ….was cold and I struggled to stay in the property. It was no neat , the kitchen was so untidy with dirty plates n stuffs left around . For once I regretted paying for a place to stay . This place needs total renovation not healthy to live there like this . I don’t know if hotel.com actually go access places register places on their websites before they allow them to be used. Am not happy and if only I can get a refund I won’t be going back there definitely anytime soon. Except you a dirty person u won’t go stay there honestly. Not going there anytime soon and management should make this place more liveable pls to guest so they feel at home.
