In the past, Rangkasbitung Station wasn’t just a train stop—it was a key economic hub in Banten. Situated at an elevation of around 22 meters, this station falls under Operational Area I Jakarta and is the main station in Banten Province. All trains operating on the Tanah Abang–Merak route stop here.
History of Rangkasbitung Station
Rangkasbitung Station was part of the railway construction project from Tanah Abang to Anyer Kidul initiated by the Dutch colonial government between 1896 and 1900. During Indonesia's fight for independence, the station served as a strategic point for logistics and transportation used by freedom fighters.
The station is a crucial part of the rail line connecting Jakarta to several regions in Banten, including Merak. This route plays a vital role in transporting both goods and passengers. The station building showcases Dutch colonial architectural style, known for its functional and era-specific design. Although several renovations have taken place, many original architectural elements remain recognizable.
