I've been a Grapes customer since 1996 for meals, drinks, and lodging. This week's visit disappointed me. Not mainly the proprietors, but rather, a sign of a changing culture, the hotel has lost its initial appeal. I learned that the hotel was closing in the near future and that the proprietors were dwindling the business. With the appearance of a neighborhood we, the former gentlemanly elegance of the grapes has nearly vanished. Traditional decor and comfort were gone. It was immaculately clean, but not particularly comfortable. Although well presented, the food was quite pricey for generic freezer food, and in the middle of the week, the grand vines restaurant was not open. Even though the drinks were excellent, the food was quite costly for generic freezer food. My hopes may have been unrealistic. Culture has changed. People no longer utilize pubs as they used to things that are more casual. Perhaps the hotel will experience new life. Even despite my poor feedback, we were given an incredibly warm greeting from the proprietors and employees who went above and beyond for us. The complimentary kid's beverages were recompensed for a very minor mix of drinks. I have nothing to criticize the lovely staff.

I stayed here about 20 years ago. My son remembered it and wanted to go back, which we did. The pie was excellent and the best we've ever tasted. Nice staff and surroundings. Hope we'll never have to come back another 20 years.

I want to say a happy onenight stay at this hotel. As soon as you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by the receptionists and staff. If we could, we would have stayed longer. The hosts were Gail and Peter. Sadly, they will leave the hotel in September. The new owner has a lot of shoes to fill.

For dinner, we decided to eat at the Grapes Hotel. The personnel was quite friendly. There was a loud party in the restaurant's dining area, so we chose to eat in the empty dining area. I chose the chicken curry with my wife and myself for $11.40 each. When served up, the curry was nothing more than a very watery karma-like sauce with pieces of what I would assume from appearance and texture as boiled frozen chicken pieces thrown into boiled rice and a poor little poppadom. Forget the chef's minimum effort to create maximum profits, we ate up and left because we won't return. The following day, we had dinner at the neighborhood copshaw kitchenbistro and had a wonderful meal that was far superior food and value for the money. Grapes, get your act together, stop taking tourism for granted and provide value for your money.
