This place is not recommended. There arent many options in Hiraizumi, and this hotel offers a number of positives. The hotel provides a superbly oldfashioned hot springs japanese hotel experience, and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. If you want glitz and glitz, this isnt the hotel for you. But I doubt youll come across a better hotel in this town, though. Chusonji, the breathtaking, stunning temple complex that drove all the way north to Hiraizumi, is about a 20 minute stroll away. However, when the hotel employees offered to drive us there, we declined, allowing those of you who cannot walk for 20 minutes to stay here. Mutsuji, the other major attraction, is only ten minutes away, and the cultural center is five minutes away, giving you the historical and cultural background youll need to understand this place. People come to locations like this to unwind for hours in the communal bath. The hotel has a tone surrounded by windows, with one day having a wonderful but sweltering view of the lush foliage nearby and the other less impressive. In order to ensure fairness, they change the gender assignment every day, so that men have the impressive view one day and women the next. The dinner and breakfast were substantial and tasty, again in a somewhat oldfashioned way. Dinner

Over the course of three visits in the past few years, we have remained in shabby chic old country inns in a variety of rural Japan regions. You often wonder what you have been in for when you check in until you become accustomed to them. However, even though the decor may be a little faded, they have been impeccably clean, the service was courteous and efficient, and the cuisine was of the incredibly high and consistent standards you have quickly become accustomed to throughout Japan. Nighttime set meals were varied and tasty, and the breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options. The initial period was lovely and soothing, and the location was excellent, with many gorgeous and significant temples and magnificent countryside. A fairly priced cast iron kettles from noriko to the north are available in the retail area next to the front desk. It might be worth buying one here or a nearby local retailer because they become more expensive once they reach the major Tokyo department stores. You will not be disappointed with this accommodation option in a fascinating part of Takeu unless you are particularly difficult to please.

The staff is very friendly but speaks limited English. Our room was clean and spacious. However, the inn needs upgrading. The hallway to the baths had a musky smell and the carpets looked worn. But the bath area was clean and tidy. Dinner and breakfast are both advantages. Delicious and generous! The beef in the sukiyaki and sashimi was of very high quality. The hotel is close to Chusonji Temple and Moussouji Temple. We were the only Westerners while we were there.

I enjoyed my experience at Musashi as I was upgraded to room 505, which also has a sleeping room and a corner with a top view of Hiraizumi. The service is great and I appreciate their hospitality. But there is nothing to do at night in this area so be prepared.
