Why are you able to sample Austrian cuisine in a charming little village like Gersfeld? We were curious enough to plan our hiking excursions in this lovely region and book rooms there in this old, comfortable hotel. After a long years of cooking experience in Austria, the owner decided to begin a new life in Germany and we can only salute him for this action. The food he cooks is delicious and well sized for hungry hikers, as is the large breakfast buffet, and the wine that goes with the meals is carefully chosen. The room faces the wonderful Markt place of gernesfeld, partly. You will be more lucky with them than we were when we were tortured by temporary street works early in the morning. This was a crucial point! Instead of getting any prize reduction, we had to pay the typical spa tax per day. We would have appreciated free schnapps or beer for comfort, but generosity seems out of date in days of financial crisis.

Overall, you can't go wrong here. We stayed here because it was right in town on the square. The food was delicious and the owner was very friendly. This is an old building but well preserved. I just want to let you know there is no elevator. The schnitzel wax was the best we had in Germany when we were there.
