This felt more like a bed and breakfast. There are very few guests and very few people on staff. And we loved it and will be returning! The downside: We were somewhat skeptical when we arrived late at night and didn't see any other cars. You have to drive around the old high school to find the hotel rooms and even still there were only 2 or 3 cars. My kid said, "Mom where did you find this place??" But that's because this is an event venue and there wasn't an event going on when we were there. There are only 17 rooms and when we were there only 6 were occupied. The location is an odd combination of business offices that sell wildlife cameras and wild pig traps (seriously), event meeting rooms, and lovely little hotel rooms - that have all been converted from a high school. The upside: Despite all of that, once the sun rose and we got the lay of the land and met the staff in the breakfast room, we loved it! The food was delicious. The rooms were really lovely, super comfy beds and beautifully decorated, not standard hotel furniture. The staff communicated with us throughout our stay via text messages and were super sweet. We will be returning to The Tangerine on future visits to Starkville to see our son who is an MSU student!

My stay was one of my best stays ever. The simplicity of the check in/check out, the staff, the breakfast, the esthetic and room decor, everything was just really nice. I would love a readon to stay for another visit

The place was over all RELAXING. It’s in a very quiet area. You don’t hear outside traffic or noise. I will definitely be back just for a relaxing stay. It was clean, the breakfast was fresh and good. Overall just a wonderful experience.

It was great for a one night stay. I wished the vent wasn't so loud in the bathroom but all good. Would stay again.

Absolutely amazing place. Got a little worried when we hit the dirt road but was pleasantly surprised when we saw the venue and the Tangerine. Room was spotless, beds were comfortable and got a good night’s rest. Breakfast was delicious and the lobby was very nice. Lietha did a wonderful job and was a kind soul. Definitely made our trip to State worth it. 10/10. Looking forward to returning during football season.

It’s a lovely hotel with a quiet countryside vibe. We’ve stayed twice and will continue to stay when visiting the area.

The room was spotless with lots of little extras like snacks and sodas. It is the cutest little motel ever! They have a bar if you want a drink and a micro store with snacks, meals, and tasty treats. Their free breakfast includes sausage, bacon, biscuits, muffins, bagels, yogurt, and oatmeal. You can get juice, coffee, or tea. Check in and out are easy peasy. This has become our place when visiting MSU. If I could give 6 stars (out of 5) I would! One a separate note, they also host weddings and special events. There is a wonderful outdoor space. Although we weren't there for that purpose, if we lived close enough - we would surely book it. There is a dance floor, stage, outdoor fireplace, and lighting that would add the perfect ambiance to a reception. One the neatest things is the fact that it is a renovated school. It was the high school attended by none other than Jerry Rice! You can look in the back and see the uprights still standing watch over the field. In all honestly, I should probably just leave a terrible review to keep this gem a secret but alas, that wouldn't be right.

Cute and unique hotel. Slightly in the middle of nowhere, I’m not so much that it inconvenient to get peaceful and quiet comfortable bed. It’s an old school that has been transformed into a small boutique hotel so it’s unlike any other place. I’ll ever stay a very pleasant surprise after a long drive.

Really unique stay in a motel converted from an old high school. The room was clean, comfortable, and had some of the character of an old school room. Definitely a nice change from the usual hotel experience.

This was an absolutely brilliant reuse of a historical school building with a fantastic aesthetic. Out in the countryside but close to Starkville. The beds were very comfortable and good to lounge in. Artwork was tasteful. Fixtures were upscale but not fragile. Linens and towels were high quality and plentiful. But the grounds were chef’s kiss. My teens loved taking pictures in the abandoned football stands. Plenty places to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. Lobby staff were friendly and helpful. This was an unexpected win on our last minute trip to a concert. Would highly recommend!
