Excellent guesthouse that feels original and old. Extremely spotless and well-kept. The accommodations are lovely. Small but lovely private bath. The proprietor is extremely helpful in every way. We ordered some food from the store and spent it in a small living room in the middle of the house because they did not offer dinner. The owner greeted us there and performed an old gramophone with Glen Miller, etc. Brunch is served in the morning. Would love to return!.

The building itself is quite old, but surrounded by a very modern area. Down the street to the station, there is an excellent pizza bar that serves specialty seaweed pizza, which I would recommend! One man is running it and he's amazing! Look for wood pieces in the window. The rooms at the hotel are quite true to what one would expect from a very ancient building. Although the road can be heard through the walls, it's not too bad at night, and the staff was fantastic. The garden stands up to the pictures, and the building is very nice, but be careful of being loud at night. Honestly, the location was rather amusing: ise station is approximately 12 minutes' walk away, and several restaurants and a convenience store are nearby.

My friend and I had a great time at Hoshidekan. The building is an ancient 2 story Japanese house that has been in the owner's family for four generations. The exterior is amazing but the interior, with it's inner garden connected by a bridge, is really beautiful. The hosts were so wonderful and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the choice of Japanese was very traditional. If you want a real and fantastic Japanese stay I highly recommend this house.

My husband and I stayed at this charming hotel for two nights and found it to be a complete paradise. Traditional oldstyle Japan is the setting, dark wood, a red bridge, a functioning gramophone, and beautiful old magazine photos are all on the walls. Our room was small, but we had everything we required. The restrooms are outside the rooms, but there are many, so access wasn't an issue. Side note, the hotel was only half full, and if it was to capacity, the restroom situation might have been a problem. The staff is outstanding. I didn't know the name of the male proprietor, but he was knowledgeable in English and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a pleasant time. He took us around the hotel and showed us the bamboo pipe with water dripping from it. It is just as amazing! The hotel offers breakfast either in western or Japanese. There are two types of bathtubs and large shower rooms that are ideal at the end of the day if youve been tramping all over ise. One of my favorite touches was the flag stand in the foyer. When we checked out, the nice man who runs the hotel called us a taxi and then stood outside, waving goodbye with the Canadian flag to wish us well. What a wonderful message from Hoshidekan. Very well done.

I strongly advise staying there if you want to experience the traditional Japanese way of life. Staying at Hoshidekan was an incredible experience. You can tell the history of the building right away after you enter. The center of the property is a calm garden that is completely made of wood. The host is fluent in English and has maps in many different languages. He is doing everything in his power to assist you and make your stay enjoyable. The front desk officer placed the flag of the respective countries on the room because he had an eye for detail. There is a free internet connection and a big enough room. Expect high comfort, but the experience will make up for it. The bathroom and shower are clean, and the room has adequate heating.
