Wakakusa no Yado Maruei gave us an unforgettable ryokan experience. We visited in mid‑May, and the staff’s warmth stood out from the moment we arrived. Even though we came early, they checked us in using a translation app, stored our bags, and welcomed us back enthusiastically at check‑in. We were treated to green tea and manju in the lobby bar, which made us feel like VIPs. Our bags were already in our room when we arrived. The room was spacious by Japanese standards, with an entry area, leather slippers, double sinks, a shower, a separate toilet room with its own slippers, a living area, and a tatami sleeping space facing beautiful Lake Kawaguchi. The futon bedding was very comfortable. The hotel has three onsen areas—indoor, outdoor, and a private one. We booked the private onsen in the afternoon as recommended, and the view of Mount Fuji was spectacular. We were lucky to have clear weather, making the experience even more special. Our in‑room kaiseki dinner was a highlight. Each of the many small dishes was beautifully prepared, including an aperitif from a local winery. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive, with gorgeous presentation and thoughtful service. While Japanese people are known for their polite and respectful manner, the staff at Wakakusa no Yado Maruei truly go above and beyond. This was our first ryokan experience, and I would absolutely return for the serene room, the wonderful food, and the exceptional hospitality.

The hotel location is very convenient, and they provided a shuttle bus to pick up the guests. We ordered a Mountain View room, the sight seeing is very good, and we can sitting inside the room to watch sunset and sun rise. They provide free dinner and breakfast, and they serve the dinner in the room. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Definitely, we will come back again. This is an amazing place for us to get the Fuji Mountains energy

Staying at the Ryokan was an amazing experience. The staff was extremely polite kind and helpful. The rooms were comfortable. The Onsen was exactly the relaxation that was needed. And the best part was the food! Traditional dinner and breakfast was the highlight of our stay. Would 100 percent recommend staying here.

Stayed two nights and wish we’d booked a third. The room looked straight out onto Lake Kawaguchi, the staff were genuinely kind without being fussy, and the onsen was exactly what we needed after a long travel day. Dinner was excellent, lots of small seasonal dishes done properly, and breakfast held up just as well. Mt. Fuji even showed up on cue. Easy recommend.

Wonderful experience overall. Onsen was lovely especially having the open air bath in the room...all baths give a different vibe but all relaxing. Really enjoyed the Kaiseki but would've been great if they did allow you to report food allergies in advance so they could adjust menu. With my shellfish Allergy one meal set was very limiting. So next time probably wouldn't add that to the experience. Staff were friendly. The view from the room of the lake was amazing ..view of Mount Fuji from the observation deck was awesome. Overall a very relaxing stay...would definitely come again and very happy we stopped here on our trip to Japan.

From walking into the lobby of the hotel the staff was superb, amazing customer service. The evening dinner prepared for us was outstanding and explained what was presented to us on the tray, same goes for our breakfast. We will definitely recommend this establishment to others. Our highlight was we were able to see My Fuji around 8am utilizing the rooftop access of the hotel was a plus! Amazing!
