This is my second time staying at this ryokan and quite frankly I will always keep coming back to Kyoto and staying at this specific ryokan. The wife loved it and enjoyed the onsen more than she expect too. This however wasnt my first time.

We had the most fabulous stay at this cosy and well-located Ryokan. The staff were incredibly sweet and service-minded, and the lady owner was such a treat!, warm, welcoming, helpful, and she went above and beyond to make sure we had the most perfect honeymoon stay. Our room was spotless and charming. We still talk about the matcha cookie from JAL that was specially ordered for us. We will surely be back next time we are in Kyoto!

I’ve stayed at many great hotels and rarely write reviews, but Yamadaya Ryokan truly stood out and went above and beyond in every way. My wife and I stayed here while visiting Kyoto, and from the moment we walked through the door, we could feel the warmth and character of this family-owned and operated ryokan. The rooms were lovely, and the baths were extremely well maintained and relaxing. I highly recommend the authentic Japanese breakfasts and dinners offered by the hotel, which feature seasonal ingredients from some of the best suppliers in the area. They created unique experiences that my wife and I will cherish forever. The staff also recommended excellent wine and shochu options to enjoy during our stay. We will absolutely return the next time we’re in Kyoto and highly recommend this wonderful ryokan to other travelers!

Honestly top notch place. The room was beautifully traditional, comfortable and I love the small things they had. Like they had fresh tea for us to make in the room, snacks to have with the tea etc… the staff was exceptional and very warm/friendly. I would recommend this 100 out of 100 times if you want a traditional stay

The best service I've ever experienced in a hotel. Staff were incredible, friendly and spoke very good English. The breakfast was exceptional, well worth the price, and the onsen was clean and had a good view. Rooms were tidy and in good condition. There's also a coin operated washing machine and dryer on site which came in useful. Would highly recommend, and would gladly return in the future.

Everything was amazing here! We checked in late after a long day of travel and were immediately greeted with such kindness. Everything was clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. They were eager to answer our questions about the city and offer recommendations for our stay. My husband and I were blown away and will come back on our next trip to Kyoto, as well as would recommend this Ryokan to any of our friends! Thank you, Yamadayan Ryokan, for an amazing stay!

Wish we stayed for longer as this Ryokan was amazing. Although we only stayed for one night, the staff were incredibly welcoming despite us being gaijin and the room came prepared with traditional tea and sweets. The ryokan is opposite a large temple which was amazing to have in the doorstep. We will definitely return (hopefully for longer)
