Amazing! If you are looking for a unique place to stay in Nairobi, this is it! Hilary, the staff at African Heritage House was kind enough to give us a tour of the whole house..and since we came with our 5 year old, we were given the family room, and Hilary helped us to clear out any fragile pieces from the room. We were served with tea in the evening, and even in the morning before we checked out. We decided to eat dinner there, and were served an excellent 4 course meal.

Beautiful house full of African historiy, the best is the staff, really nice people that helped us and treat us as home. Hillary and Mutiaza are amazing! The view from the house is Nairobi national park, very nice. The food was excellent, home made and delicious. We will come back!

Unique and wonderful property for a short stay in Nairobi - easy accessibility from airport without having to deal with CBD traffic. African Heritage House was a welcome change from chain hotels - unique decor, a story behind every artefact in every room, staff that clearly feel they have a mission rather than just a job and a wonderful experience overall for our family of four. Tom and Paul were excellent in communicating in advance, and personalising our stay - they emailed in advance to ask if we had any special dietary needs. Zach and his support cooked up a uniquely memorable milti-course breakfast and lunch for us - outdoor dining with the best possible view overlooking grounds and Nairobi National Park. We received an extensive tour of the property and exhibits / collection from Ilari, who was extremely knowledgeable about the provenance of all the ariefacts on display. After we checked out in the late afternoon (well after regular city hotels would have evicted us)), and complementary evening tea/ coffee, Tom even dropped us off at the airport in his SUV because there were some demonstrations in the city, which might have hinders Uber / public transportation. Very memorable experience and stay - would highly recommend!

If you are in Kenya for evening day this is a must visit place. This is like staying in a museum of African art. The house is complete furnished with art pieces but most are usable and should be used. the tour that goes with it is incredible. Not to mention the food.

After a two-week stay in kenya, a group of three was thinking about returning to CA. Nairobi area, lakes, nature, and Massa Mara. Lan donovan, the owner and founder of this place, was kind enough to let us settle in and help put everything we had learned in context, not only about kenya, but also about the African continent. The meals were also excellent, and the rooms were immaculate. I reread the African heritage book after returning home after meeting so many topics about history, politics, art, and culture. We talked about the whole trip on our flight home, focusing on our last night and our interactions with alan. In the final couple of hours of our journey, we learned a lot. We began putting the planning of our next trip to kenya, one that would begin and end with a minimum of two days at the beginning of the trip and another two days before returning home. This was an integral cultural experience in and of itself.

You can see a small African in the center of Nairobi, all African cultures will be seen in this small house, and you will be glad to visit it. It's not very far from Nairobi, but 20 kgs from the wetland area in Nairobi.

I like this place. I will never forget this place. Thank you for the great experience. I would not be able to eat or sleep for the night. The rooms are full of treasures from different parts of Africa and a trip that includes a private tour so I can see and appreciate this incredible collection of art and historical pieces.

I was waiting for a while to return. After reading so much about Nairobi, I stayed here for one night to evacuate. Despite my brief visit, it was wonderful. I was able to meet Lan Donovan and discuss his numerous projects when I got there early in the afternoon. The 90-minute tour, which was instructive and fascinating, brought in more visitors. My sleep was excellent, and the frogs from the pool played all night, giving a lovely backdrop. You had a sense that you were far removed from everything. I can highly endorse my room, which was the least pleasant one. From the furniture to African decoration to bathroom plumbing, every detail was considered. The beautiful fact that you had your own veranda where you could peek out over the national park was ideal, as it protected you from the occasional rain shower. After a hearty breakfast, I departed and intend to return. It's close to Jia International Airport, making it ideal for a first or last night stay.
