We spent wonderful days in this lodge. The tent-bungalows are situated directly at the Mara River, the grunting of the hippos was our lullaby at night. Service was excellent. James, our guide for the game drive, did everything to show and explain wildlife to us. Once we were already nearly back to the lodge, when he heard that a leopard had been seen. Immediately he turned and we had the chance to see this elegant animal. One morning, we had a picnic on the prairie, in the company of zebras and antelopes, next day, we had a cool beer and appetizer, while watching sunset. Meals were served outside, we took breakfast in the morning sun at the hippo-pool and dinner at the bonfire. We had also the opportunity to do a walking safari, where we learned about masai life, we watched foot prints of different animals, saw the grazing grounds of the hippos and crocodiles sleeping in the sun. Thank you for the marvelous time.

When comparing the royal mara with any other place Ive stayed, its actually difficult. The linens were soft, the handcarved beds were warm, the food was fantastic, and everyone there worked to meet our needs large and small. However, living at the royal mara is a complete immersion in nature. Our tents, bungalows, and artisanscrafted masterpieces where we slept are located on the mara river banks. Hippos, snort and splash day and night, and crocs bask in the sun right below our veranda. Did dies, monkeys, and mongoose? Share the warlike setting of the camp, and intrepid visitors at night giraffes, buffalo, and cats. Every animal we might find on our twice daily excursions across the wilderness pass through on frequent occasions. For someone who isnt familiar with living in amidst this drama and pageantry it might be a little strange, but this is where the real magic of staying at the royal mara begins. Staff and guides allowed us to explore this world in a fallout state of wonder, but they also made us feel safe, and more importantly, made us realize we were a part of it. This location is distinct from any other due to its closeness to the place and ultimately to our hosts, themselves. Take a safari excursion on your bucket list

I will recommend this place if you have the time. It is extremely challenging to compare the Royal Mara to any place Ive ever visited. Yes, the linens are soft, the handcarved beds are warm, the food is great, and everyone there works to ensure that our needs are met quickly and with great care. But life at the royal mara is complete immersion in nature. Our camp tents bungalows and craftsmens work great. The mara river has no end of the mara river. Hippos and crocodiles splash and snore both day and night, and crocodiles bask in the sun just below our veranda. Did it die, monkeys, and mongoose? Share the warlike atmosphere of the camp and intrepid guests at night giraffes, buffaloes, and cats? On our twice daily rides through the forest, we often pass through many different animals. It might be a little inconvenient for someone who is not familiar with living amidst these hilarity, but this is where the real magic of staying at the royal mara begins. The staff and guide allowed us to experience this world in a fallout state of wonder, but they also made us feel safe, and they also made us realize that we were a part of it. Its that connection, both to the

The staff and location were so awesome, you could see so many animals, including lions, zebras, monkeys, mongoose, and monkeys, plus the north mara conservancy, which was so beautiful and naturally cultivated. The area was so natural and stunning, the grounds were also so beautiful. The house is large and wellkept, and it is fenced. They have beautiful handcarved tents just here.

We had a four-day unending adventure. Our guides, Simon, James, and Kamal, were excellent. They have excellent knowledge, and they made sure we saw everything the mara has to offer. The entire staff was outstanding. They looked after every detail. Our tents, not the typical backyard tents, were breathtaking. A neighborhood artist handcarved all of the wood. Hippos that were right outside our balcony by the river provided nighttime entertainment. The hospitality of everyone at the Royal mara will be an unforgettable memory for us.

This is the only place I will stay in the massa mara, and Ive been there 12 times. Ive tried many other lodges, but none compare to the Royal mara. Youd be crazy to stay anywhere else. It is fenced, is on the mara river, and is absolutely beautiful. Only 8 stunning handcarved tents. However, calling it a canvas tent is a disservice! The rooms are 1100 square feet with a veranda directly on the river. You can see giraffes, zebras, crocs, hippos, mongoose, monkeys, and baboons do die right from your room. The grounds are naturally landscaped and stunning. The north mara conservancy is where you want to see lions! There is a bbd series of big cat diaries. The staff is so fun!.

PROS: Good property. Great Cabins, 5-star on-site staff service goes above. Simon was great, he went running with me twice on the Serengeti/Mara savanna. Josphat, the local manager, was very responsive to organizing tours, and every request I had. Game rides with James and excursions were personal, flexible, and knowledgeable. Food and table service was amazing. CONS: WiFi internet is very shaky there. It only worked about 40% of the time I was there and it was very slow, crucial when cell phone only picks up 2G. Also be aware that the updated policy is to charge for $30 for transit to/from the airstrip unless you book a "package". It didn't say that on the website (which will soon be corrected), but I was able to call off-site management and have the charge removed after 1 hour of conversation (which was way too long). Just FYI in case you have any billing questions.

Spent 3 nights there, in the end of December 2017. Mixed feelings. The good: Excelent location, the best lodges in the world, excellent service, artisan furniture, you are in the middle of nature, you hear hippos 24/7, lions, monkeys stole cookies from my porch, I mean WOW. But now this: They cheat you with the price. After you book, they tell you to pay 80 USD extra per person per night, which was not declared anywhere. Hotels.com promised to reimburse me, but never did, so shame on Hotels.com as well. Average food (the same lousy tilapia for dinner two days in a row), incompetent staff and most importantly spooky. Have you seen the TV series Lost? I mean the kind of Dharma Initiative SPOOKY. You are only allowed to move around with an armed guard and are told to never leave your lodge in the nighttime. At 10 pm sharp, they turn off the generator, so you have no juice at all, no light at all, nothing. They give you a walkie talkie for emergency, haha, it does not work. Of course, I was afraid - but I survided and it was great adrenaline after all. Wifi is good for e-mail only, but you have to walk to the modem and sit next to it to get any reliable connection. And forget video calls. And of course, if you walk from your lodge to the modem, guess what, the armed guard walks with you. Oh and did I mention, I was the only guest in the camp? So, yes, great adventure. But would I feel confident enough to take my kids with me? NO!
