After missing my flight last month, this was a reasonably cheap place to stay. The common areas are spread out and socializing is fairly simple. Booking was straightforward and the staff was welcoming. They lose one star because I was informed that I had to have a real 65 liter backpack to remain in the larger dorms. It was a first for me, because I had my duffel bag and dive bag. So I had to spend a little extra and spend more money to remain in a four-bedroom dorm with three other Australians. I kind of get the impression that they don't want to deal with Australian travellers, possibly they have had bad experiences in the past. Perhaps they should place the requirements on the papplication site anyway because it is what it is. I'd advise it because it has a good vibe to the location.

Apart from the horrible location, I would not recommend staying at the big bird backpacker. The room is small, the beds are uncomfortable, cockroaches are in the room and bathroom, the bathroom is dirty and the staff barely clean. The staff are helpful with directions and friendly overall. You can absolutely find better places for less!
