After having had the two worst experiences ever at other hotels in Rio Belmont and Chateaux Job, I eventually tried to salvage things by booking into the Metro Manila shortly after the new year, and I wasn't let down. The rooms are simple, understated wood on marble, carefully and tastefully designed interior design, flowing seamlessly into the rolling sea view. Everything is new and works well, and the details have all been taken care of. Yes, the hotel is on Copacabana and as such, it is a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper, but aside from that, the position is wonderful, in a good area of the strip and with easy access to panama and nearby restaurants. Everyone talks about the rooftop pool, which is absolutely breathtaking and immediately recognisable, read instagramabble. However, I was equally impressed by the atrium downstairs, especially the large living wall that decorates the outdoor area. This entire area was very quiet and ideal for work. Apart from that, many people, including me, were using laptops doing some work, and I can attest to the fact that the internet is very fast, stable, and reliable. There are also several nice areas where you can jump on a laptop and do the digital nomad thing in a relaxed environment.
