Very nice and quiet location. Perfect for someone who looks for a secluded place to stay. Hotel located in a very nice scenery in a near proximity of many attractions, activities and also La Fortuna city with many good places to eat. The staff is very nice and helpful.

This property is away from the hustle bustle of La Fortuna. The property is older but it is clean and roomy. Don't get me wrong, it's not a 4 star hotel, but the courteous staff, the hammocks, the front lawn for the kids to run around all added to our stay.

The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are reasonably priced, modest, and clean, and the staff is super friendly and so helpful. Miguel, the owner, showed us toucans in the trees, and fed us fresh coconuts from trees on the grounds . Francisco helped us plan excursions, and gave us lots of good tips about local places. If you come, don’t be discouraged by the rough 1/2 mile road in, because once you get here you’ll love the surroundings.

Hi was very happy staying here. The facilities were more then I expected for the price, with a lovely pool, relaxation area that faced the nature reserve, so we saw toucans every morning, and the staff were very accommodating and helpful

Lavas del Arenal is a small hotel situated just ouside of the main town in La Fortuna. There are plenty of benefits to staying at Lavas del Arenal. The first that I noticed is that the common areas of the hotel are surrounded by beautiful plant life, various birds, and a stream in the back. There is a pool available that wasn't overly occupied during my stay. I used it in the morning, so there wasn't actually anyone but me, but even in the afternoon, I only ever saw a couple people using it. The owner and the kitchen staff do a great job. The owner in particular was helpful in suggesting activities to do around La Fortuna, and went the extra mile in ensuring that I got to my destinations on time. They serve a complementary breakfast, which consists of rice and beans or pancakes, eggs, fruit, and a yogurt-like dip. Dinner is also available, though it is not complementary. The rooms themselves are simplistic, though you should be aware of this prior to showing up based on the budget pricing. Mine had a single bed, a mini fridge, air-conditioning, and a bathroom. An unexpected perk was getting to play with the owners puppy Mia. One of the friendliest dogs around! I would have no problem suggesting other people stay at Lavas Del Arenal. Just be aware that you'll be taking a taxi into town, which can be up to 5000 colones.

We found this hidden treasure last minute. The rooms are big and spacious. The staff very nice. The beauty of this place is there outdoors. They have a river / creek in the back that makes a beautiful peaceful nature sounds. The landscaping is beautiful with flowers and trees. The pool area is surrounded by trees and flowers. If you are looking for inexpensive, natural beauty and not all the amnesties of an expensive hotel. This is great.

We arrived late and our keys were waiting with no paperwork required. It was a great environment. The best part about the stay was the Breakfast. It was wonderful!

It was 4 of us, young guys, looking for adventure and fun in Costa Rica! We were not looking for 5 star resort, so this hotel for the price and description was the best match and we did not get disappointed. Hotel located in a small quite place, away from the city center(but 5 minutes by car), has nice backyard with bbq aria, pool and little river coming running from the mountains, very peaceful! all you need after long day full of attractions. And sure this hotel would not much different from the others, if not the owner!!! Thank You a lot!! He made our stay amazing. He speaks good English, he recommended the best attraction to go, helped us to get discount prices, gave us the ride around the town just for little fuel charge, brought us to fresh market, so we could get the meet and veggies for BBQ, helped to rent a car, etc. If you are the first time visitor - I definitely will recommend this hotel for everyone. If I ever go to La Fortuna again, I'll stay there. Once again, if you are looking for the nice, warm atmosphere and not for 5star resort with 50'' flat screen TV - this is the place to go! Thank You, Mario!

Great place to relax. Also is assisted by its owner who's always willing to advice you where to go and bring you tour information! The only negative aspect is that you have to drive for a while to get to La Fortuna and find restaurants or other touristic places. But in the overall it's a good place to stay.

Although the road to the hotel had us second guessing our choice, it turned out to be a good stay. The staff was superb! Mario was extremely helpful with all of our outings as well as keeping us fed. The girl helping on site did not speak english yet helped us with everything we needed, including making us a dinner after we arrived in the late evening. The room was small, but clean. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. I enjoyed the eating area.

Once again I'm finding that it's the people that make your time somewhere enjoyable. So that's why I'm recommending the Hotel Lavas. Maurio will do his utmost to make your stay very nice. One of the hardest working guys I have seen, and very friendly and hospitable. Keep up the good work, and all the best with the expansion.

We absolutely loved our stay at Lavas de Arenal!! Mario the owner is a truley wonderful host! Accomadations were great and Being fed a daily breakfast was awesome; fresh fruit, juice, and the rice and beans w/eggs was to die for! Mario and his people do their utmost to insure your comfort not just at the hotel, but for you ventures out and about in Fortuna. He is very knowledgeable and can get some great deals on area attractions. This was our first Trip to Costa Rica and of all the places we visited during our 14 days we enjoyed this place the most!! My wife and I are already planning our next trip to CR and we will stay here again, we feel not only comfortable here but also feel as though we made a dear friend in a matter of days. Thanks Mario!!

Wonderful place to stay just outside of La Fortuna. Comfortable and clean. All the staff are very warm and welcoming! Mario, the owner/manager, gave us great advice on what sites to see and helped coordiate activities, even giving us better rates at some sites. He also recommended some great restaurants, including a tilapia farm down the road, which serves the best tilapia I've ever had. The breakfast and coffee in the morning are fresh and delicious. Highly recommend it!
