About Mawamba Lodge
The Mawamba Lodge is nestled on a sandbank in Tortuguero, on Costa Rica's northeastern Caribbean coast, between the Tortuguero Canals and the Caribbean Sea. Accessible only by boat or plane, it offers unparalleled access to pristine beaches and waterways. Set on six hectares, the lodge features 50 standard rooms and six superior rooms, each offering captivating views of the lagoon and canals. The renovated buildings blend rustic charm with lush rainforest vegetation, creating a haven for exotic birds and wildlife. Guests can enjoy a souvenir shop, cafeteria, the Mawamba Park (featuring frog and butterfly gardens), a restaurant, swimming pool, manicured gardens, a bar, and day and night tours. Beach access is available, though swimming is not recommended. The cozy standard rooms, housed in wood-clad modules of four, include private bathrooms with showers and hot water, ceiling fans, and either a king-sized bed or a double and a single bed. For families, the lodge provides eight rooms with two queen-sized beds. Each room boasts a balcony with a delightful garden view. The more spacious superior rooms, ideal for honeymooners seeking privacy and comfort, feature king-sized beds. Children are not permitted in superior rooms. The garden complex includes a swimming pool, bar, and lounge area with direct access to the Red-Eyed Tree Frog Garden. Dining options include two restaurants and a cafeteria. The lodge's buffet restaurant caters to included meals, while the floating Katonga Restaurant offers a unique dining experience cruising the Tortuguero Canals (reservations required and not included in packages). The cafeteria serves snacks from 9 am to 6 pm.
