Amazing place, incredible service and wonderful staff. Not a typical hotel stay. It’s remote and on its own incredible property which makes it special. The staff is always available for your needs, the rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and food was delicious. Extremely satisfied with my stay.

Do not be discouraged by the road to Rancho Humo, what lies at the end turned out to be a real gem. This property is nestled up against the central wetlands of Nicoya peninsula on the shore of the Tempisque river and is a definitive location for birdwatchers from all over. My wife and I are not birdwatchers but booked this based on its remote location and its high marks from other reviews. We also booked in offseason so fortunately for us we were the only guests and the staff was so great to make us feel welcome and taken care of all week. Be sure to let Kenneth make you feel welcome and attend to whatever your needs are and listen to his vast knowledge about the property and it’s animal inhabitants while on the safari tour. Also, Chef Kenya is an absolute magician in the kitchen so don’t miss her daily culinary offerings. Will absolutely return one day, maybe not during the rainy season though… 😁

Rancho Humo was perfect for us: comfortable and peaceful accommodations on the grounds of a working ranch with a nature preserve, so I experienced Costa Rica without feeling like a tourist...even if of course we did take tours, with Kenneth pointing out birds, monkeys, crocodiles, green iguanas (Ticos probably think I'm funny to be excited about iguanas), and even a very cute couple of Pacific screech owls peeping down at us from a tree right outside the front door which I would not have noticed on my own. I was born in Maryland but I never saw a Baltimore oriole before I was here! The staff were very welcoming, Ticos are lovely people.

Wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Good food. Nice pool area. Pool could use a little more cleaning of leaves, etc. but that didn’t stop us from enjoying it. Nice big rooms with high ceilings. A/C had to work hard to keep it cool. Fantastic river tour with our guide and constant companion, Santos. Would definately recommend!

This was a wonderful stay in a remarkable place. The room was very comfortable with a balcony with a fantastic view. The food was excellent and the staff were really kind. The highlight was the "safari" with Kenneth, around the property to see birds. One of the best birding experiences we've had. Palo Verde was closed, but this allowed us to see huge flocks of birds in the wetlands right next to Palo Verde. We then walked around several times, as well. The road there is challenging, and it's remote - you have to eat at the hotel, because there's nowhere else. But it was the highlight of our trip. Secluded, beautiful, comfortable, and great wildlife.

This hotel is a treasure! The rooms are large and lovely, the views of the wetlands spectacular. The food is beautifully prepared. We enjoyed the pool as well. The hotel offers several tours; we chose the wetlands by horseback tour. It exceeded all expectations. We just wish we had more time there!

I wasn't totally sold on this place when I first showed up. The building was very nice, but the weather was super hot, the area was very dry and dusty, and the mosquitos were so intense I wasn't sure how we'd be able to do anything outside for the 2 days we'd be there. This was on a trip in March where we had no issues with mosquitos anywhere else we visited. But the longer we stayed, the more it grew on me and my family. The host, Kenneth, was very kind and helped us explore the area. On our first afternoon there, we saw a whole bunch of different birds within a couple hundred yards of the hotel door, including the most amazing little screech owls. The food in the restaurant was very good, but it was the only place available. We managed to get by for lunch just on food we had with us (there was a small refrigerator in the room) and then enjoyed dinner at the restaurant. The road into Rancho Humo was unpaved, but it was flat and easy to drive on, especially compared with other roads we drove in Costa Rica.

Book here if you want to see Palo Verde National Park. They also have tours on their own property and the river. Make sure to understand the schedule for the tours to be able to take advantage of them. The hotel is a luxurious outpost, off the beaten path.

This place is off the beaten path, but we saw many unusual birds and we were treated like royalty. Large room with a sweeping view. Kenneth, our “guide” gets an A for customer service, and is a pretty good naturalist as well. Food was very good and reasonably priced as well.

We went to this lodge because it is near Palo Verde national park and a location for wetland birds and birds along the tempisque river. This is a beautiful hacienda run by friendly and friendly people. Raymond is the manager and a master of all trades. He does the wildlife drive, helps with check in, helps with wine and food, and is an excellent host for all his team. You can't choose what your chef cooks. It's great to have no choice since it always surprises and is fantastic. In fact it was almost too much, and we had to miss lunch! The highlight of the wildlife drive was when we saw a lot of wet birds and luckily saw a kabir, a huge woody that is also a rarity to find. Also lucky to see a lesser ground cuckoo and a mangrove cuckoo, as well as many tiger herons, egrets, and crocodiles, plus a pygmy owl and several caracaras. Boat trip along the mangroves was also good with a great guide. We had a junior suite cabin with lots of light, quite spacious, and clean and tidy. Yes, it's a bit tricky to drive here, but the dirt road was good and much more

A nice walk around the area can also be nice then you know why there is no cold water and something some relaxing time at the pool was also a nice thing. The tour options in a nice new and fancy brochure explain, times, costs, possible combinations. They are very friendly and helpful but the staff is totally lacking English knowledge. Obviously, you have to pass through the wilderness with the intention of arriving by car and the journey takes time, patience, and careful driving look out for iguanas and meals and drinks there is no alternative. Strongly recommend stocked up on drinks and snacks at the grocery store. This also means great stars sky, quietness, if not for the wind and a lot of wildlife. We had one of the larger rooms and they were amazing. The room was very comfortable, but the view was very good, the bed, the terrace was very bad, well maintained and clean with all needed amenities. Another big caveat and that ended up with 3 stars. You can easily listen to conversations from to in the next room and listen to the comments of the couple to it. What else can both sides listen to. Good food, but for one exception, no one is there to show you your rooms and make plans that are not good. If you speak a few words in space, they will light up, but if you come if you arrive by car, just start and yes, continue, you

Overall, this hotel was rather unsatisfactory for me and my family. My family traveled through Costa Rich, and Manuel Antonio required transportation from Arena to Manuel Antonio. We looked for an interesting activity to do along the way with a hotel for the night since it was way too long to accomplish in one trip. We chose this location because there were a few choices. It had excellent reviews, and we appreciated that it had a border on a national wildlife sanctuary. The drive down was rather rough, as much of the route was unpaved and passed through plain villages. We anticipated a change, but this property's entrance was on a dirt road. The structure was impressive. A woman quickly came and greeted us shortly after that although we speak little Spanish, she unfortunately did not speak any English and was able to inform us that the English-speaking manager would come at around 6. We arrived around rp, and nothing was available to do. We learned there was a local boat trip, so we found a number and called. I spoke with tempisque colors' proprietor. We had breakfast early at the hotel because there were no restaurants near this location. No other options were available for brunch, and everyone had the same meal. We asked for fresh milk after the first milk had become bad, and there were a few choices. I served the typical costa rican breakfast. I don't like writing
