Amazing hostel in Reykjavik's city center. We reserved a room for 6 people for 3 nights, and our stay was fantastic. The hostel met all the criteria we were looking for, and the interior decor was also nice and pleasant. All the staff was friendly and responsive to our questions and requests. We particularly want to mention the receptionist, Tom, who was incredibly kind and helped us a lot during our visit. Highly recommended!.

I highly advise a smaller room with less guests. Because of the wide range of pricing, this is a difficult place to rate. I quickly discovered that the 42-person dorm wasn't in the best possible position for me, nearly entirely due to the bathrooms. The final item on my checklist is a dorm with less people and a private room. I realize this is more my bad, so that's fine, but I personally wouldn't suggest a larger dorm. There were only a few bathrooms to share, and the shower I saw was just a room full of shower heads, so there was no privacy. I would probably have been able to accommodate the sleeping arrangement, but this was my experience. This might be different for other rooms, but this was my experience. I actually didn't stay in the hostel for long, but everything else about this location was fantastic! I did spend a lot of time here, but not for the night. Its a great social location that is great for making new friends. Everyone I spoke with was really friendly, and I felt safe during my entire visit. There are a lovely bar, lots of communal areas, and concerts are even played downstairs. The position is also excellent and conveniently located near to most of the downtown area. Very good hostel, all the tour companies I booked with had this hostel as a pick-up location which was handy. Everyone I met was considerate of others. The pizzas were good. didn't use the self-catering kitchen but it appeared to have all the essentials. Overall a good stay in a good location.

Due to the wide variety of this location, it's difficult to rate it. I reserved the 42-person dorm, and I soon discovered that it was almost entirely tributary of the restrooms, which made it not an ideal setting for me. To improve my vacation, I settled for a different hotel. However, if I had reserved a private room or a dorm with fewer people, it would have been much more feasible. That's not what I believe is my problem, so it's whatever, but I personally would not advise larger dorms. There were only a few bathrooms to share, and the shower I observed was just a room full of shower heads, meaning there was no privacy. The sleeping arrangement likely would have been adequate, but I found that it was too low. This could be different for other accommodations, but this was my experience. Also, everything else about this location was excellent, especially for me personally. I did spend a lot of time here, but just not for overnights. Socially, it's a great place to hang out and make new friends! Everyone I spoke with was extremely kind, and I had a sense of security. There is a wonderful bar, a few common areas, and performances are even conducted downstairs. The location is also ideal because it is close to the majority of the downtown area. The bar was my favorite bar in Reykjavik. The staff is friendly and helpful. The other travelers are considerate of others. Everyone gravitated toward the kitchen so it was easy to make friends and find others to do things with. The kitchen is stocked with necessities and cabinets of food that can be shared, so check to see what there is before you go to the grocery store.

About Kex Hostel

KEX, meaning 'biscuit' in Icelandic, is a social hostel located in a former biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik. Steps away from the city's vibrant nightlife, coffee shops, and attractions, KEX offers a range of amenities including a café, bar, lounge, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, and free Wi-Fi. Accommodation options include dormitories (including female-only dorms), private double rooms (Double Plus with ensuite bathroom and sea view, Double Standard with shared bathroom, and Twin Private), and family rooms (four- and six-bed dorms with bunk and double beds; baby cribs available upon request). Linen is not included and there is a mandatory linen fee of 1100 ISK per person per stay. Two guest kitchenettes are available, and breakfast (classic or vegan) can be booked at reception.
